I contacted them through their contact link on their web site to ask about a Griffin transaxle and Dan replied, "We do not know of anyone that has used a transaxle in a gtm before, but take a look on, their web links, to see if any has done that before". That is a word for word quote, except they put in their links. I mean what is a porsche g-50 any way. Just curious about what they are up to. Not much motivation to start a first build as one of their cars. If this is not approperate I'm sorry. This just worries me, sense I now have to reconcider what I should build.

Well, in all truthfulness, I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between what they wrote to you and what you posted!
Obviously someone at FFR was busy and wrote the reply to you hastily. I understand what it says...but maybe that's just because I have drunk so much of the kool-aid!
Seriously though, no one has yet seen a functioning Griffin that I am aware of. Your reasonable options at this point are Ricardo, Porsche, and Mendeola.
We all know you can get a G50 (several variants). If you real fortunate you might lay your hands ona Ricardo. Mendeola has shipped some SDR transaxles, and I am hoping they work out their issues. Griffin has made noises about a GTM compatible transaxle, and I wish them luck. The more options we have the better it is for everyone.

I I think I can say with relative certainty that no Griffin transaxles have been installed in GTM's yet since they are not yet in production. I have high hopes that things will go well for Griffin, and that both Griffin and Mendy can bring some great boxes to market and sell enough of them to remain profitable for a good long time.

what was said on another board is that Griffin had a parts delay when the manufactor was bought out by another company. But now its sorted and back on track. That they are going to supply a 6 speed box to RCR for their SLC race car to test soon...They post quite regulary on the GT40 forum in the RCR section..
I believe the issue the OP has was with mis-communication. When I read the original post, I read it as if the conversation went like this:
buddyd: Hi, wanted to know about the use of Griffin transaxles in the GTM.
Dan Golub: Well, we're not aware of anyone using a transaxle in a GTM.
I believe the word "Griffin" was left out of the e-mail from Dan, and (as I read it) the OP is upset that Dan doesn't know what a transaxle is, and doesn't think one has ever been used in a GTM. Not just a Griffin, but any transaxle.
Simple mistake of omission in the reply from FFR, IMO, and wrongly interpreted as ignorance or lack of knowledge by FFR staff by buddyd.
I think a re-wording of the question back to FFR or a phone call to the support team would have cleared this up easily, and re-stated what has been posted by others above, that it's not likely anyone has used a Griffin transaxle in a GTM, however Ricardo, Porsche, and Mendeola have all been used.
I can confirm that no Griffin has been released yet. I'm told that within the next 3 weeks the first few beta transaxles will be ready, which has me very excited.
If the fact that a typo ie. left out word in an email really bothers you, then you really may be frustrated with building an FFR. Don't get me wrong, I love FFR, but if you seriously can't figure out what that email meant, I guarantee that you're not going to like the build manual or build process. Both take a quite a bit more work than what was required to figure out the email. Everything certainly isn't perfectly written and as someone else once mentioned, the kits don't go together like a snap together plastic model.
I am very thankful to everyone that has replied. I built a cobra years ago that a freind of mine bought and the idea of solving problems is not my issue, but , the factory support if needed is. The kit Jim bought was less than desirable and imput from the manufacture was non exisistant. I would just like to be sure that if I have an issue with the parts supplied by FFR that "reasonable" support can be counted on. We had to modify every part exstensively to build Jim a useable car. So when concidering my only other experience with a kit car I just want to be sure that I have a buildable kit with out having to remake everything. So maybe my bad on not picking up on it being a typo, it is a lot of time to invest if you can't count on needed support and quality parts. I would like to be driving in 16 to 20 months with a complete car and spend my extra time in the build on wanted custom work, not making a kit useable.
Well, I guess the only thing I can add at this point is that if you don't feel confident in FFRs support, then I doubt you would feel comfortable with ANY kit car companies support. After all, they aren't the number one selling kit car manufacturer in the world because their customer service sucks. It doesn't.
To be truly honest, FFR seems more supportive than nearly any company I've ever dealt with. Dave's involvement I think speaks a lot about the company, in that he's front and center at every major event. He puts himself out there to hear all the positives and negatives, and I think that positioning himself in that way allows the entire company beneath him to act in a more positive manner.
I've been truly surprised by how much Dave himself actually gets out there, even online, to see what "the word is on the streets" is if you will. FFR can be criticized in small ways, much like just about any company out there, but customer/builder support is definitely not one of them.
