Dash and Instrument Panel

Modified dash pad and intrument pod to fit corvette IP and HUD. After many hours of fitting and trying diferent spots on dash and windshield I was able to find a spot on windshield where the HUD is visible . The curve on the windshield distorts the image, needed to find a flat spot on the windshield for it to work. The corvette uses a special windshield for the HUD. Also needed to modify the IP to fit in dash pod and steering colunm bracket to make room for the IP and HUD to fit in dash. The colunm bracket needed to be relocated to close the gap between the colunm and IP. It took two days, must have taken the dash and windshield in and out a hundred times.Finaly every thing fits and is working the switches for the HUD and IP are going to be relocated to the center console.

Very clean install Mike. I know how thankless it is to modify the car to make parts fit that were never intended to fit. Especially when you have so many dependent variables with the column, dash, IP and Hud. I am a big fan of the HUD. Well done.

Outstanding work:w00t:

This is the second stock dash retrofit I've seen with the IP switches remotely located and I like it. It might be dash attempt #4 for me.

Question -

Looks great - I thought that you needed "corvette glass" in order to get the right reflection - Is that FF glass? Thanks Mak

The corvette's HUD windshield has a unique reflective film laminated in the area where the HUD image is projected. But you can get a decent reflecting image with the kit's supplied windshield. It's not as crisp as with the HUD windshield, but very acceptable.

Idealy should have a special windshield to get a perfect image. But you can make it work if you find a good spot on the windshield and then is a narrow viewing area if the windshield is not true you get distorsion and hard to keep the hole image in focus. You have to move the HUD unit until you find a spot that works in all seat positions. But by moving the seat up or down and moving the image up or down you can get a close to perfect image.

Lower Dash Modifications

In order to fit lower dash from corvette and mount ignition sw.I had to modify steering colunm brackets to get it up close to the IP so that the colunm could be tilted up and down with out hiting lower dash panel. I modified the ignition sw. bracket to mount on tunel frame and mount IP on it also.

Triming and Fitting

Today I trimmed the lip of the dash pod ,since is used to hold the kit supplied IP and it covered the edge of the corvette IP didnt like the way it looked.I had to redo the bezel of the IP since it was trimmed to fit the 3/4 in. lip of the pod.I got a bezel from Vidal he dint use the one from his IP and trimmed it to fit the new opening also had to build up the lip arond the top edge of the pod to slide the panel glass behind it and give it a tapered look. I also built up ign. switch trim to fit flush agaist the tunnel need to do some sanding and fitting on it when I am done is going to be recovered with leather.

HUD and IP switches

today, my son and I finished installing the HUD and IP control switches also we cut out the openings for the radio and A/C control and traction control switch. we had to modify the traction control switch so that it could be mounted flush on the center consol we removed the vinyl for modifications and reapplied it with new glue, but the vinyl does not appear to adhere well to the abs plastic. when all fittings and modifications are done we are going to have the the interior recovered with leather

interior refit

After the modification to roll cage for body alignment, the body was moved 1/2 in. to the drivers side and now that the body is centered on frame. I had to refit the dash and modify the brackets to the HUD in order to realign the image on the windshield.

I installed the doors and realigned them to check the clearance between the door panels and dash pods .The passenger door panel was to close to the dash and had to modify the dash pod to get even space between door panels and dash.

After cutting the dash I made a glove box using the corvette key lock and latch. The aluminum box is mounted on the frame and secures the dash pod to the frame and body. I still have to mount the latch striker in the aluminum box but every thing is fitting good

Next I have to refit door panels and windows before I send dash and door panels for upholstery.

Hey guys, I made a template to make the box, but my concern is that since no two cars are the same it may not fit properly in another car, I made the box to mount on the bulkhead that runs behind the dash, and is a little over 7 inches in depth and 11 inches wide and, 7.75 inches in height. The front bullnose matches the contour of the dash pod. The box is easy to make but the real work is making the box door and mounting the latch. I am working on the latch currently, and I'm trying to find an easier way to do it.

Love the idea of a glove box. Gives it a more production car look.

I love what you're doing using the Corvette dash. Looks very nice and I like the glove box idea also.

I do have a question. Is there a way to remove the Corvette emblems and Z06 from the gauges and replace them with a FFR or something else?

There are gauge face kits on the market and some dont have the corvette logo like this one from ebay. I will do something like this before final assembly.

glove box and dash

Finished the door latch bracket and installed glove box light, will install a 12 volt charger outlet in the glove box also.

Made close out panels for the sides of the dash by door post. They secure the end of the dash to the door post and will be covered to match the dash.
