Well, that explains a lot for me. Your attention to detail is among the best I've seen. Now get off your computer and get out to that garage and keep working on the car so we can all see it finally done this year!!!
Also, have you kept a record of all the parts you've used to make your car complete. Things like what car the door/window sweeps/rubber came from and all the other mods you've done. They're all subtle, but go a long way to make it a great car. That would be an invaluable list for everyone here to have. Even if they didn't use all of your tricks and tips, it would sure save people a lot of time scouring the yards looking for the right part to work.
I know!...
How about spending time with the family while video documenting you working on your GTM. Now there's an idea worth cheering for. Love what you have done so far and am looking forward to future videos.

Yeah, your wife can tape you and your son while u work. That way we can see the process in more detail. Ha. Yes. I volunteered them. It's for a good cause!!

I tried that one.
Went over like a fart in church after eating sardines.
You guys are funny.
I have been so busy lately. I just got done moveing locations of my buisness, finding a spot, doing the buildout, and then moving in and organizing. I am in now and things are going good.
I am still comminted to finnishing my boys car, it has gone further than I thought it would. I started out thinking we would just get some color on it, now it has turned into more of a restore. It is going to be a real fun car.
I am about to get the GTM going agian, I need to reorganize my shelves and such, and get my mind in the right spot for it, then full speed again.
I don't know if you guys have seen the Sirocco build, I'll post my latest video, it does have GTM content..
Your son is very lucky to have a father like you that is willing to spend that kind of time with him fixing his car. And you're very lucky to be able to spend time with your son doing something like that. I've tried and tried with mine and just haven't found "it" yet. He's almost 14, and could care less about cars. All he wants to do it play video games. And I HATE that.
I have the same son when I got the car he was 16, he is now 18 and still no interest. I had a mom that raced cars and they couldn't keep me out of the pits. How times have changed.
Well, whether he ends up a car guy or not, I feel we all need to go threw the experience of the hell part of a long project. Then we can appriciate things more. I guarantee if someone looks at that car the wrong way he'll be all over them, because it was his blood, sweat ,and tears that helped complete it. And I don't think it would have been the same if I did it for him. So, we'll see, we haven't killed each other yet.

The solution to your problem! Scoop up 2 of these for his christmas. Then when you start comparing how the GTM in the garage will destroy more than half of the cars on Need for Speed he will be much more interested! Like fishing for teenagers. And I am sure that you will like these things too. There just to fun.
They also have some cheaper setups as well. Good luck.
Seat looks interesting. But I have a hard enough time navigating around with a computer. I'm turning 50 in two weeks. I know I'm getting old because I'm not keeping up with technology and have no desire to. I fought getting a cell phone. I finally got one. And it's just a phone. NO texting, no internet, no camera/video.....just a phone. I really wish I could find that "button" to get him off the couch and out of the house. And I know I could just turn off the TV. But forcing someone to "have fun" never works.

To add to your statement... I'm an engineer, 30 yrs old, and all my coworkers, engiiners around 22, have no CLUE how to an oil change. I can and have worked on all my vehicles - bike or car- and being in aerospace... It's hard to imagine an engineer not wanting to do their own work let alone not know how to do it. Sad... for only a few years diff

Book smart but no practical experience, your right. When we get a young engineer I make them do everything. I work in an oil processing plant, the kids come out covered in the stuff. At the end of the day they will know what it is and how it works.

Its been just over two years since I transitioned to the reserves. I'm EE and most of my coworkers are EE or AE and I see the same things. One good friend (he graduated about three years ago) asked me to install his wall bracket and LED TV. Simple things like; finding the studs and ensuring the bracket was level, were totally foreign to him.
He was eager to learn and I let him torque a couple of the lag bolts (in addition to being the human bracket holder).

Well, looks like I will be back on the GTM. I am still in the midddle of helping my boy on the Scirocco, so it's back and forth between the 2 projects.
Got the brakes plumbed and now it's time to start thinking about cooling system and feul.

Haha, ya, some people are clueless for the simple things. Not necessarily their fault, they just werent exposed to what we have been. My renter (also best friend and manufacturing Eng) wont turn a wrench without consulting me first lol
Nice job documenting your build. I will be following your build...can't wait to see the finished product.
