Cool build Mike. It's guys like you that make it hard for me to just put my car together. I see your build and now I'm thinking I should do something different too. One step forward and two steps back. None the less, keep up the great work.

No updates yet. Just got back from Israel and have to head back for one more trip in 3 weeks and will hit it again when I get back.

OK, just got back from 6 months in Israel and started back on this project. I have the driver's and passenger"s cowls formed and located. I layed out the instrument panel and am gluing some material to it so I can recess the gauges. The plan is to have dual glove boxes on the passenger side with possibly a grab bar on the console and to run a double DIN Nav system down the middle. This is unchartered territory for me so if you see any major flaws in my thinking, please let me know. Btw, there is lots of trimming to do on the cowls before the are complete.

Hey Mike looks good. What kind of material are you using for the layout ?
BTW
One flaw that I noticed is no mention of cup holders, if you can fit in extra glove boxes, than cup holders can't be that much harder

I am using 1/8 inch thick bending plywood. It is very flexible with the grain and can get a very tight radius with it. I have used 4 plys glued together. It is my first time using it and it is pretty easy to work with. As far as the cupholders go, I am sure I will find a place somewhere for at least one.

GTM #0081: Some say that I only know two facts about ducks (both being wrong), and that I am illegal in nine US states.[... All I know is that I'm called "The Stig".
This project is going to end up taking forever. Before I left Israel I twisted my ankle and just had it checked out yesterday. As it turns out, I broke it three weeks ago and am now in a cast. I need to give it a few weeks before I can really get back into to project. Now to top it all off, I may have to go back to Israel for another month. Wist I could take bits and pieces with me to work on but that might be a little hard to explain to customs. I will post updates when I can.

Can't wait to hear more on this custom interior. Planning on building a GTM within the next year and when I built my Cobra one of the things I did allot of changes on was the interior.
Sorry, no updates. I have been doing a lot of international travel the past year and a half and when I do get to be home, I spend that time with my family. It has been sitting untouched for some time now. Hopefully the travel situation is going to change soon and I can get back to it.

A way to make this project easier/faster is to use FRP panels from Home Depot. FRP means Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic. It cuts easily with an angle grinder or jigsaw. You use the angle grinder to take off the glossy surface, bend it to whatever shape you want and fiberglass right over the top of it. I built almost an entire body using this stuff. About $30.00 for a 4' X 8' sheet. If you are nervous about the strength-to-weight ratio, sand it off the back using the same angle grander and fiberglass the back side!

I read this on my Blackberry as I was sitting on the beach with my feet in the Mediterranean Sea sipping a Vodka Martini (shaken of course) and smoking a Cuban cigar. Surrounded by glistening olive skinned goddesses, I thought to myself, you are so wrong, I am the second most interesting man in the world….that guy on TV is the first.

Pics or it didn't happen.
Mike, I've always loved the interior you did on the Cobra. It really is as classic and timeless as the Cobra itself. That interior looks more at home in the Cobra than the stock bare interior. I'm sure this new project will be stunning whenever you stop being James Bond.
A thought about going with the wood route as apposed to using stronger materials, when you are done shaping the wood and have it the way you want it, epoxy it. This will make it almost as strong as fiberglass and will seal it very well from moister.

OK, changed direction a little but my original plan isn't completely off the table yet....just trying to find something I am happy with.

Yea Mike, glad to see your back onto this part of your build.
Since you have modified your original design plan, are you using a new inspirational piece, or are you letting the “moment “ talk to you in guiding you forward in your design?
BTW Since I have never have done a complete interior design and build, I find this thread to be very interesting, and Informative.
Please keep the great work and the pictures coming
Ron

Not sure what I am doing. It is kind of a combination of different parts of interiors I like and kind of letting the moment guide me. Not easy because every change seems to affect something else. So, there is a lot sitting back, looking at it and trying to think three steps ahead.

Ok, the reason this build is taking so long is I can't make up my mind wat I want. I have changed direction once again on the interior...just wasn't happy with how it was turning out. Too much time invested in this one so i am sticking wth it. Here are a few pictures of the console so far. The hole below the radio is for the flashers and the hole below the shifter is for the start button. The dark wood is African Bubinga and is the hardest wood I have ever worked with. I think it will looked good stained though. The rest of the wood will be covered in leather. The sheet metal (covered in white) will be covered in 3M vinyl carbon fiber wrap. I think I am going to put a couple of my gages below the radio. This will allow me to keep my gage pod a little smaller when I get to it.
