I'll bet you get the 'Nice Vette" comment a lot with that spyder... Very nice build by the way!

Another angle

Hopefully I can do a summer FFR open house. Right now I do not have a way to trailer the car- my H3 can't tow this safely and no trailer at this time...I am insanely over budget on the car...no money left for a trailer but best project ever for me.

I get that "Vette" question for sure. Body color is Corvette Electron Blue

Custom Features:

Color matching hood side vents
Gas tank skirt (currently painted blue but may cut over to black later)
Non-standard taillight configuration with trim rings
Covered dash with dash end caps
Reverse roll bars (required additional trunk work)
Drop down trunk box
Shaped fuel filler cap to fit on fender- only a 90 degree bend into the gas tank for better fuel flow from pump
Rear body mount plates welded to frame behind license plate area
Inner trunk walls added
Carpeted trunk
Adjustable slide Lotus Elise seats
Gauge faces customized with my Spyder logo
3-point safety belts
Ferrari teardrop front side markers for Park/Turn/Haz
Wireless batter disconnect with additional anti theft features
Trunk release pull
Centralized control box not behind dash for easy access
Front nose inlet rework to create mirror image radii on both sides of the inlet
Windshield pillars filled in to eliminate window slide guide flanges
Padded door side panels matching dash covering (in process)
Half wrap FFR steering wheel- leather and wood matching dash
Wood veneer dash gauge panels matching wood steering wheel
Drop down CarbonX heat mats for driver/passenger doors to prevent leg scorching potential
(tuck down between seats and cockpit frame/door...drop down over the pipes to protect legs)

Working on center hood vent and nose grille- more on this later

I appreciate your feedback for sure!

Rob

Howdy Rob,

Looking good!

Every time anyone ask about my Spyder I show them a picture of yours and say "This is what it will look like when I'm finished, I hope."

What type of 3-point seat belts did you use? I'm not crazy about the 5-point Simpsons for a street car.

Paul

3-point belts

The belts are out of my son's Lotus Elise as well as the seats. First cut on this was to actually install the retractor mechanisms inside the trunk, each one next to an inner roll bar receiver. The idea was for the belt to come through the body up and attach to the roll bar and then down to the seat points. After noodling on this some more several months ago, I decided that any rain or moisture would wick down into the retraction mechanism and eventually cause belt/mechanism failure no matter how clever we got. So we just cut the belts off and installed as you see in the photos. The receptacle is bolted into the side of the seat on the door side as designed by Lotus. Each seat belt will have manual adjustment. The 3rd point is bolted into the opposite side of the seat.

My wife told me early on that I'd be riding alone unless I got rid of the bulky racing harness. Given that FFR's objective was to make this a cruiser, I was motivated to make it more of a chic friendly ride. I've seen too many guys over the years driving their Cobras alone.

If I can provide some inspiration for your build, then I feel I'm achieving one of my personal objectives with this project..thanks for the feedback.
