I was on a local Ford forum (SF Bay Area) and came across someone that was selling a used set of Performer RPM heads and roller rockers. I was a bit skeptical since he offered $500 for "everything". From the top of my head, I figured it was just over $1300 new so perhaps $500 is good considering it's used. So then I call him and he indicated it wasn't used much; maybe 100 miles! And it would also include push rods and all the bushings and bolts necessary to bolt onto a block. So I went to the bank and got $500 and drove up. After looking over the heads, I realized that he might of been honest; the "rust" in the water galley were just surface stuff I could rubb off to reveal aluminum underneath. Checked for any chips/cracks in the head and valves but nothing eveident. The casting shows "6025" which is the Edelbrock 60259 with 2.02" in/1.60" ex. (I measured them later as well). The roller rockers are CompCams 1.6 ratio (red anodized). Appears all the bolts and bushings are present. I added this all up from Summit Racing and if all of this was bought new, I was looking at $1454.59 (and I fogot about the pushrods). I just counted my lucky stars on this one because I wasn't sure if this was a good deal or not but time was running out on it as someone else was inquiring about it too; my gut said it was a helluva deal - what do you guy's think??? here's a few pics i took:

Notice on the chamber on the far right that I cleaned a little; that was just with a few shots of carburator cleaner a some swipes with a rag.

Good find! Those are a nice set of heads (we have em' too, good power).

If you are still concerned is there any test you can do for damage (magnaflux rings a bell, does this work for aluminum)?

Herman,

Christmas came early!
Check to make sure the springs have good spring seats, some of the early RPM's had bad ones.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Great deal!!! FYI, you cannot run stock pistons with those heads. You will need to get new ones, or have your existing pistons notched. You wont have enough valve clearance.

Don't worry about the rust, non-item.

I just sold a set of those not too long ago for $900 shipped. I certainly wouldn't let a set of those go for $550 unless I was desperate for cash!

You might wanna check for warpage, just in case.

BE CAREFUL.... I've seen a lot of used heads that were junk. Remember the old addage... If it sounds to good to be true.... I would have a good "head man" look them over. Good luck, Randy Richards

It's a good idea to go ahead and heli-coil those spark plug holes while you have them off the engine.

Ask me how I know????????

magniflux works only on iron heads, the non-magnetic nature of aluminum won't work. i believe they use a die that shows up dark on the cracks under a black light when magnitized.

If they're perfect (they look good in the picture) you got a steal!! Hopefully the previous owner didn't get 'em that way too.

Zy-glow is used to check alum for cracks. Edelbrock heads have helicoils from the factory. That was an outstanding purchase!
