I used to watch SPEEDVISION a lot more than I do now, but I get sick of all the NASCAR too. There are still some very good shows on SPEED. In fact our company is a sponsor for Dream Car Garage for 2004. We are supplying scooters company of Drean Car Garage, so you'll be seeing our scooters in the background during the tapings.
I want more sports car racing! Show anything but the same dang NASCAR race 20 times in a week!

I agree. While I love racing and I love NASCAR, I'm getting a little bit tired of it. We need more 2 Guys Carage and Hemming's and Hot ROd and more shows on ANYTHING besides NASCAR. I've sent them an email or 2 about it and you can do the same at their website - www.speedvision.com.

Of course he could have mentioned who owns speedvision......NASCAR ! So naturally they are going to promote themselves.
Surely it's only a matter of time before a true NASCAR channel is launched and speedvision can return to its roots.
btw, I despise the average NASCAR fan. These people try to know everything about the sport, but never DO anything except stick a number 3 on the back window of their loser cruiser' minivan. No flames please, it's my opinion and we're all entitled to one.
Here here!!!
I could go for some WRC racing right about now!

I love speedvision. I am not a Nascar fan, although I respect it. But there is still a huge amount of motorsports coverage if you look. They've just shown two programs on the Kart races at Infineon (a track I know). There is CART, ALMS, Formula 1, Formula Mazda, Barber dodge, etc etc. And Wind Tunnel.
But I also miss the Lost Drive In. I still regret not taping their excellent showing of the movie Grand Prix, including lots of interviews with the director and James Garner. Great stuff. IF only they would release that version on DVD....

Seemed a bit contrived to me, but then again the average NASCAR fan is'nt sophisticated enough to pick that up... uh oh, I think I just told it like it is...flame on!
Could there be a more boring spectator sport than NASCAR?!?!round and round and round and only turning left???? and the guy with the most sponsors wins....
I have to agree. I have participated in Dale Jarrets Racing Adventure and had an average lap speed of 183 MPH at Talladega with 4 other cars on the track. Do I respect these guy's? Hell yeah, I cant imagine being out there with 40 other cars. Am I a NASCAR fan. No. My good friend is Crew Chief for Tony Stewart and I can have pit access to races whenever I want, but I do not go.
Give me motorcycle racing, Sportscar series, Rally car racing, funny cars....even front-drive rice burners are more fun to watch. Dave is right on the mark.
I would rather watch Golf. Flame on....

Yessem, can you imagine a car like my Pappy's old 34 ford fixed up to go like 400, 300, uhh 200 mph! Then Nastycar has regular Bubbas names like Joe, Mike, not fancy names that I can't pronounce like them fenderless cars in CART, and F1! Yessem, Bubba's like them Nastycars but I don't!
What's all that beeping on them der video, somthing wrong with your mic? Down here in Bubbaville we like them der Paris Hilton in the Simple Life..........YEEHAW!

Have to wait till I get home to hear ol' Dave...firewall at work won't let me listen...
But, UH OH, I, um, kind of LIKE NASCAR. I've followed it closely since I was about 7 years old, believe it or not. Fireball Roberts was one of my idols at the same time that Graham Hill was, go figure. Granted, it has become a huge marketing machine, with boring predictable pit road interviews. ("My IBM Coca-Cola Burger King Staples Price Costco Craftsman Quaker State Clevite Jasper Dodge was runnin' real well today before we hit that wall...")
But the racing...just round and round? I don't see it that way. The nuances of how these guys drive is pretty incredible to see, particularly at a track like Atlanta, which is (or, used to be before they reconfigured it into a 'D' shape) a couple of drag strips connected by seriously banked turns.
I watch F1 religiously. Just got done watching all the Valvoline Runoffs last night...taped 'em recently on Speed. Love the bikes too. And European saloons. Drags? Astonishing, can't take my eyes off 'em. I watch formula Atlantics, F3, the Australian sedans are a complete hoot, love 'em all.
With very little TV time, Speed is about all I watch any more.
Nascar ain't perfect. But there is no other sanctioning body out there that has brought motorsports so far forward in terms of recognizability. And that trickles down into every other form of racing. These guys are doing something right.
There's my .02, and it's from a born 'n' bred white collar yankee.

Exellent work on an Exellent movie.

Wow, was that Dave's last day on the air???? Personally I try to not be an auto racing "snob". Maybe it comes from having been to just about every type of race course there is either as a spectator or a participant, I find there is an interesting element to each type of racing. Formula 1, Cart, NHRA Drags, Nascar, LeMans, I respect them all and watch what I feel like when it's available. If there's too much of one thing to suit me I just hit the OFF button when I've reached the saturation point. Probably need to be in the garage anyway, this thing isn't going to build itself.
Frank
Over the last ten years or so I have had the plesure of working with Dave and I can tell you he is hands down the best Talking Head motor sports has ever had.
Try the SCCA runoffs for some good road racing. 12 to 3 on Saturdays and Sundays and I believe all day on Christmas. Also try this Saturday night at 9 for the 12 hours of Summit Point. It's an enduro race for SCCA Improved Touring cars. Lots of Miata's, RX-7's, hondas etc. Should be a lot of fun.
I just watched a couple of the Valvoline Runoff races a couple nights ago (I've got the digital satellite recorder with a 35 hour recording capability...awesome) and I have to say...
This year's races were the best I've seen in a long time. Each race I've seen so far (still have a couple to go) has been a hard-fought contest with surprising twists. Don't wanna be a spoiler so I'll leave it at that...except to say, if you enjoy competition involving internal combustion engines, get thee to Speed to watch the Runoffs!

In my youth I was a big fan of stock car racing. I guess it was primarily because they were racing cars that you could actually go to the dealership and buy a reasonable facsimile of your favorite vehicle that was on the track. Has anyone seen a rear wheel drive, V-8, two door Taurus lately!? EVERY car running out there today is a "tail dragging V-6 grocery getter" when you look at one at the dealership! Sad! Hell, you can't even buy a V-8 Dodge passenger car! "STOCK car racing.....yeah, right!! No flames please, just my .02.

I can't understand why guys get upset with the Nascar coverage. I never hear guys complain about too much football on TV.
Another thing take a good look at your Cobra and a good look at a Nascar stockcar. Your cobra has more in common with a stockcar than any other type of racecar running today. Both have similar sb V-8 engines carburated, manual shifted trans, Ford 9" rear. Similar suspension, similar brakes. The Nascar guys have done more to improve the performance in your style engine than any other racing group.
It's a lot more than just running in circles, just like football is more than you get the ball then I get the ball. etc. etc.
