I need to find a steel plate or bung that is pre-drilled/tapped for a 1/8" NPT oil temp sensor that I can braze or weld into my Levy Racing oil pan...anyone have any sources? My normal sources, Pegasus Racing and A/C Spruce, have come up empty....

FWIW, I need a place to install an oil temp sensor, either on my motor or in the oil pan...the sensor is too big to install on the hex-shaped 'tap' (extension) where the oil pressure sensor is currently located (LH front side of the block). Any other ideas?

Get one to fit the backside ( the side without the hoses that you have to plug) of the oil filter relocater, it's either 3/8 NPT or 1/2 NPT. It's a clean setup.

Go to Lowes or home depot and get a brass pipe coupling. Cut it in half and braise to the pan. If steel is required, go to your local hydraulic shop. Good luck!

I should have mentioned - I have 4-4's and no oil cooler, so the filter stays in the stock location on the block, thus no relocator (less fittings to leak).

But you gave me a great idea re locating it on the the inside of the pan, minimizing the need to grind off the plating - thanks!

Is it OK to braze brass onto steel? If so, that's the plan - I already have a brass fitting.

I brazed my temp sender into a steel pan. Just use flux.

Barry,
ARP makes weld-in bungs.

Or you can buy a stret "L" at home Depot or Dixieline, bare steel ("black pipe") or brass, saw off the female end and weld it on. That's how I made the bypass valve port on my blower outlet (in too big a hurry to order one from ARP).

Home depot has steel couplings too, see if they have a 1/8" npt one and do the same. Cut it in half and then you will have two. I am doing this with my fuel system return line to the tank. Thats a 3/8" NPT though. I think they have 1/8" too not sure though. Then just weld it like normal. Good Luck with it!

Sorry for the double post, but you could also punch a hole ala Vortech return line and tap that for a larger NPT then thread in a reducer and then your fitting. Just another way to skin that cat.. I have tapped many an oil pan like this and not had a problem. Just take your time and your all set. Later

Barry,
If you take Mike's suggestion, I have a 3/8" NPT tap you can use.

Thanks Forrest; the gauge came with some brass 1/8 to 3/8 and 1/8 to 1/2 NPT adapters, I'm just going to braze one of them in the pan.

I'm going to add an oil return/drain fitting for the Vortech SC I'm planning on installing later - anyone know what size fitting I should use?

Yep, Vortech uses a 3/8" NPT fitting, same as Paxton. That's why I have the tap, BTW.

Barry,
Vortech has their installation instructions available on their website, should you want to peruse them for hole location, etc. The instructions are very complete, far superior to the Paxton instructions.
