Question

Anyone find a good hazard switch replacement?

I am looking for a DPST On-On switch (12V Heavy Duty) so that when the hazards are selected they power all of the markers (from [385 or 8]) and when off the turn signals are powered (through [44]). (No Lucas NOS is available for this application and I do not want to use the donor switch)

A red (possibly lighted) paddle toggle would be a bonus. I would mount a rocker type switch on the bottom flange of the dash.

After a long search I found a lighted red toggle in Mcmaster car..

Wired everything up and realized it messed up the individual left/right thing due to cross wire of lights.. What I am trying to say is that even with the diodes in place the switch in the off position when I used the turn signals lefts and rights would come on..

After a lot of aggravation I went with two mini rocker switches mounted to the under side of the dash on the left side.. The rockers were mounted to the plate that the donor would have gone on (looks like an "L" with a square cut out of the middle.) I just reach down and with two fingers operate the switches simultaneously ( yeah thats spelled right)

out of the way and works but would have liked the single throw double poe to work and light up..

oh well

Sounds like a possible alternative. I was thinking of adding a Normally Closed Relay to a regular SPST On-Off Red switch. I just can't believe that nobody makes a switch like those old double blade (mousetrap) style knife switches Alexander Graham Bell used.

...Or I can find a DPDT On-On 6P switch with no middle position!! Now to find a red one.

A pair of diodes will fix the cross wiring. They act as one way valves for current. I found two diodes in my donor harness that worked perfect. They were even labeled properly. Just wire them in with the arrows pointing away from your switch. One diode conects to your left turn signal circuit and the other to the right.

I used a 3PDT relay to replace the donor switch. Any SPST switch can be used to control the relay. I'm not sure the diodes in the donor harness will tolerate ~4 amps flowing through them for very long. Volts x Amps = Watts Most diodes are rated for a watt or less.

Yes, Last night I realized that a 3PDT On-On switch would work as well. No diodes needed. Where did you find yours? Anyone out there know if there is a 6A or greater (preferably red) 3PDT two posistion 9 pin On-On switch available?

Like I said, I used a relay which is controlled by a SPST switch. Go to www.mscdirect.com Enter 54038534 into the search engine for the relay.
