Hi,

I'm working on getting everything from my donor car ready for the kit (feb 22, 2003!) and have a question about removing the power booster stuff.

Sorry in advance if I don't call things by the right name - I don't have my manual with me right now.

I have the rod that hooks to the brake pedal removed from the power-booster cylinder (according to instructions) but am not sure what to do next. How does this part fit into the master cylinder? Do I need to pull the little rod from the back end of the power booster cannister?

thanks,
Mike

The end of the rod has an aluminum part that needs to come off. Heat it or pull it off with a lot of force and you will end up with just the rod. I'm not sure about the other rod you describe, I just have the one that fits right up into the back of the master cyl.

The aluminum part has a plastic locking device inside it. You have to get it hot enough to melt the plastic.Use a propane torch or a burner on a gas stove.

Thanks for the replies. In the picture I posted up top, is the aluminum you're referring to the shiny machined piece on the left end? I tested that with a magnet and it's not aluminum. I'm also confused because the FFR manual pictures show the rod with that end piece on.

My first reaction was to do what you're saying but the fact that it's not aluminum and that the manual picture shows it on threw me...

thanks for the help.
Mike

I'd say heat the end with a torch. Put it in a clamp or hold it with pliers and watch out, the end shot off of mine and was very hot.

Yep, the shiny thing on the left end of the rod in the picture above is what you need to remove. Dunno why it's metallic. Maybe it's some strange grade of magnetic stainless steel. Use some heat, and be sure to get it secured in a vise where you can pull really hard on it, and I mean really hard. It won't give you any warning when it lets go either.
