Thanks for the replies. In the picture I posted up top, is the aluminum you're referring to the shiny machined piece on the left end? I tested that with a magnet and it's not aluminum. I'm also confused because the FFR manual pictures show the rod with that end piece on.

My first reaction was to do what you're saying but the fact that it's not aluminum and that the manual picture shows it on threw me...
