First runs since the C4 swap

Okay, I like automatics now.

65 rwhp less on the dyno, over 4 tenths faster in the 1/4 : )

I couldn't have asked for a better car to run against, new ZR1 with drag radials. He let off before the end of the track, not sure why. He would've run mid to high tens.

Third run was next to a 600cc crotch rocket.

Second and fourth runs I tried a little more footbrake but spun the tires.

M/T drag radials 12 psi

What a blast.

Tom

Congrats! I think auto's are the only way to go for drag raceing. The few who have made the switch always report positive results. Looks like you have access to a "loose dragstrip". This neck 'o the woods it's a once a year event where they lighten up on the rules. A friend went 10.03/144 in his 2x turbo roadster last year. You guys are nuts (in a good way).

That was a ZO6, NOT a ZR1, can't believe I made that goof.

Luckily somebody shot it from the stands:

Here's the run against the bike, you can see me on the last half (fast forward to 1:30 on this one)

Thanks Quik1, I'm making up for the fact that I suck at shifting a stick : )

Thanks keezling, I actually welded in the roll bar and added a door bar on the driver's side. NHRA tech director gave me the okay down to 10.0.

Thanks for posting the video, that was great. If tech lets you run to 10.0 you are set up perfect now. Your mph is just under the 135 limit and your ET is just over 10 with a great 60 ft time. Don't change a thing or they will kick you off. Congrats.
Thomas

Very nice congratulations. I agree with Thomas your car appears to be pretty much perfectly set up but if you are a true racer you won't be able to resist the urge to go faster

I agree with both of you.

Set up perfect now, right up to the limit for the track.

BUT

9's are SO CLOSE I can almost taste it!

They'll only kick me off for 6 months : )

Is it ever enough?

Sorry we missed you Eddie, I was looking for ya.

Thanks Mike!

I'm planning on going to the next one May 7th, probably bringing a BBQ and making a day of it.

I'll send out a reminder in April in case anybody's interested in going.

no pics but....

i do hereby state that i witnessed Tommy G do a 6.29 1/8 mile last night.... i was maybe 3/4 of the way down the track myself, and did a humble 9.05

when i crossed the trap he was a wee dot in the distance

6.39 is an unofficial 9 in the 1/4...........

Get that reaction time down to .050 and no one will will be able to beat you. Way to go. Back in the day we had a 72 Pinto wagon with 289 and 4 speed. We went to a C4 with a line lock and became quicker and more consistent on reaction time and ET.

Can't tell you too much about the internals. A buddy of mine who does all my performance work built it. He started with a mid seventies C4 from a van (stronger cases), gutted it, loaded it up with race parts, did some mods to the valve body, wish I saw him do it actually.

Continental Converter - 3500 stall. Since I don't have a trans brake, it only footbrakes to 2200 (best 60ft to date is 1.44, 10.008 ET 134mph).

B&M Pro Ratchet

I can leave it drive and it will still shift automatically for regular crusing.

3.27 gears
25.6 inch tall tire (17 inch rims)
turns 2800-3000 on the freeway

I opted for the lighter tranny instead of the AOD but the overdrive would be nice sometimes.

Future plans: bigger blower, taller gears, should balance out : )

Love it

Tom

"If I build another car"??

Al, I think you really mean "now that I am planning my next build". I've already committed to 2 bird houses, am I going to have to buy a 3rd to get you going on this roadster?

Jim
