Line Lock ?

I have an MKI, 4 Link and the 275x50 MT ET streets on 15" wheels. No matter. I have the kit but I am being told it's almost a waste to install with such a light car and a 5 speed . Here I was thinking I was making an important mod !

Does the Line Lock absolutely make a big difference in traction at the track ?
Does it matter if you have it or not after a few 1st gear rips and 2-3 passes? ?
Would you install it again ?
Tx,
Jam

You'll probably find it gets more use as a hill hold than anything else. Personally I really don't think it's necessary with one of these cars unless the temperature is particularly cold. I typically spin the tires in the water roll out and stop and then do a 2nd gear burnout without touching the brake. The car gets a good 3 or 4 seconds of wheelspin before it starts to pick up speed then I dip the clutch and roll straight to the line. It is useful but I don't think it's a must have.

I rarely go to the drag strip. But I use my line lock all the time. It's really handle when starting on a hill, loading onto the trailer, etc. All stick shift cars should have them. Also, it's a lot of fun making sm oke in a parking lot

Have drag raced alot in my life and at first you will find yourself rolling out of staging! Backward or forwards and you'll get a line loc system just to stop that. Once you get more serious and realize drag racing is measured in thousandth's of a second, you'll use it more to lift the clutch to the friction point, at the line w/o rolling, so you are not "wasting" any of those thousandth's just getting the clutch off the floor! Some people will side step the clutch (just slip your foot to the left off the clutch pedal and let it slam up!)but I never had the nerve to try that! On the street it's great for traffic lights. I have put them in all my cars.

Geeze..I never thought of using it to hold the clutch. That would be easy with a Hurst button just under the shifter knob. Slipping the clutch is fun but yikes ! The rpms hit the redline instantly !! My buddies say I'm crazy. But from what I am learning here they might be jealous if I had a line Lock. Of course, I am not at the thousandths level by no means...but if I could save 2 tenths off the 60ft....well....now it has some value right ?

Each 1/10th counts! When I was racing alot, we use to record the launches of the cars and then play them back later in slow motion. It shows you just what the chassis goes through when you are trying to leave the line and could indicate places where you can make changes to cut your times down. It also will look like you are just sitting there once the light turns green! Use to be able to leave on the last yellow; three different stages of the last yellow light: beginning to come on...on...and going off. But never waited for the green! Lin-lock helps fine tune the launch. Have fun.
