Well we did a Cobra Run to the track and I arrived knowing I would NOT run my newly rebiuilt 351W motor.
But ??? I did. The computer was down so 60 fts were not available. I used to launch at 22-2300 with steel flywheel and 376rwhp. Now I have 386rwhp and aluminum flywheel. That took some getting used too !! First 3 runs I was 12.3-12.0 @ 123mph slipping and sliding on my BFG DR's. I spun them for 1-2 secs like BFG says to do...NO HOOK. Plus the revs were REAL quick !!!
So I went in the water and heated them up good.
I launched at 3200rpm and immediately saw 11.6ET at 123mph. I could now time my shifts because hooking gave me time to make adjustments. I then launched at 3500 hooked dead solid hit 2nd at 6200 rom shift light and ran a 11.40 at 122mph. My 1/8 mile in that run was 7.556 at 94pmh. Then the track computer went down ..it was 5pm so we left to call it a day. Don't know 60fts.
but I do know I could come out at 4000/4500+ and hook....so I will in a few weeks. QWIK 1......I have not yet worked up to a 5000rpm launch ! Give me time ! What I learned was how to launch my new set up. Next time I WILL start where I left off. High revs and real hot tires. Last 11.4 pass I was up against my buddy's awesome CSX Winston Cup. His motor is detuned to 585HP and you see all of that when he gets his rpms up !!
I hung with him nose to nose until mid 3rd gear then he just walked away !! C-Ya !! He ran his best at 10.93 @ 127mph against my 11.6. Our last run was like this:
Him Me
1/8mi 7.177 7.556
1/8mi 101.34mph 93.94mph
ET 11.087 11.405
MPH 126.32 122.6
My best pass on my 376 rwhp motor was 11.54 at 118mph. So I picked up some power .
I did not powershift except this last run from
3-4th. All else was lifting my foot. Now I am familiar and I feel confident the new motor held up.
Next time I will take it up a notch. That won't be too long away and I will have rollbar and spectator video. Just taking it one step at a time ! No doubt the CSX has much more wiggle room. I had no business hangin with him even for the short time out of the hole and his top end power is incredible ! We were both on a learning curve.
