New rules look like they will be final for the 2012 season. All you 5.0 roadster guys can drop down to 2100 lbs. The 351 guys can now weigh 2252 lbs. I can now put a monster motor into my coupe and still not have to go over 2300 lbs.
RECOMMENDED TO THE BOD
The following previously-published rule change proposals have been recommended to the BOD:
ITEM 29) Change Appendix A, Prepared Class X, Section 9.b:
“b. Minimum Weight Calculations
All listed weights are without driver. All weights are calculated based on displacement as listed per Appendix A,
10.a. Example: weight for a 1837cc RWD car is 1200 + (1.837 x 200) = 1567 lbs.
Engines with displacement less than 4.0 liters:
RWD: 1200 lbs + 200 lbs per liter
FWD: 1200 lbs + 150 lbs per liter
AWD: 1200 lbs + 250 lbs per liter
Engines with displacement of 4.0 liters or greater:
RWD: 1200 lbs + 180 lbs per liter
FWD: 1200 lbs + 130 lbs per liter
AWD: 1200 lbs + 250 lbs per liter
Regardless of the weight formulas above, no car shall be required to weigh more than 2,300 lbs before
applicable weight adjustments.
Weight Adjustments:
Cars with engine located behind driver: + 20 lbs/liter
Cars equipped with traction/stability control: + 50 lbs
Cars equipped with active/reactive suspension: + 100 lbs
Cars equipped with ABS: + 50 lbs”

Maybe I have my calculations wrong but for a 331 with supercharger at 180 lbs per liter I get.
(5.424 x 1.4 x 180) + 1200 = 2566 lb
Which is much better than the old 200 lbs per liter where I was at
(5.424 x 1.4 x 200) + 1200 = 2718 lb
My car is currently about 2385 with a full tank of gas so if they pass the rules change I would still need to add 200 lbs but that's better than 350 lbs.
I didn't do the backbone mod yet I've been too busy with work and moving house. My new shop is almost done so the backbone and maybe a cage could be in the not too distant future and that could add the 200 lbs that I need to go XP under the proposed rules.

Mike re-read the note in the middle. No car will be required to weigh more than 2300 due to displacement.

Mike I wonder if they are including the 1.4 factor in the displacement comment? If they are then I would be very happy. Time to get some big ass tires and turn up the boost

I believe the 1.4 is how you come up with CI to enter into the "weight formulas". Under the new rules a weight formula will not require you to weigh more than 2300 lbs.
The weight adjustments are T/C, rear engine, ABS, and active suspension. I think those 4 items are the only thing that would put any XP car over 2300 lbs.

Mike I hope you are correct that means I can actually think about ways of taking a few pounds out of the car and still run XP. I'd better order up a couple of XP stickers to replace the EM ones.
