Alberta Insurance Questions

Our car is not quite finished but it does have its VIN. The insurance company told us that they cannot insure the car for fire and theft without an inspection and appraisal. The term 'Kit Car' seemed to scare them.

What companies/brokers are you using in Alberta?

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Try Competition Insurance. You will probably need an inspection and/or appraisal anyway for an agreed value policy. Western Corvette in Calgary can do an out of province inspection and because they are familiar with high performance and race cars they are probably a good first call for an inspection. Ask for Lawrence.

I use Melloche Monnex, they gave the same story. I think that's typical. You will need an appraisal, get it done and submit the book to the insurance company and you are good to go. In the near term you can drive without it.

I used Competition Insurance for the insurance, and found them to be really good. They don't have all the restrictions that some of the others have. The guy who owns the company is apparently a vintage car guy himself, so understands how we like to use our cars. Price was great too.

For an estimator, I used Fred Nelson, of Nelson Racing (403-242-3856), and he was absolutely great. He was very thorough, took loads of pics, documented everything, and gave me the exact valuation I was expecting & hoping for. He's been in the classic car / hot rod industry for many years, and has loads of experience. You'll see him wandering around at most of the events and shows.

I also used Competition Insurance (Ralph Zutter -780.451.7940) and I used Nelson Bender at Appreciate Vehicle Appraisal for the appraisal (780.469.9391).

I've been using Pacific Legends and have had no problems. They injured for the price of the kit when I started the build and covering to 30k now that I have the VIN. I will increase the amount after I get closer to completion and then get the appraisal. They're pretty flexible.

I have the Legends insurance. Insured as a classic, must stay under 5k/yr. $325 or so/yr for about 30k. They are also familiar with the appraisers around and need this before they can insure.
