Ottawa Cruise - September

Hey all, we've had a lot of great cruising weather this summer but seeing as summer's almost gone I wanted to gauge interest in a Cobra cruise. I was thinking of a mid-september cruise to Wakefield through the park with a lunch stop enroute. I'll host morning coffees for a starting point, anyone know of a good place to eat on the Quebec side?

I'll scout the route in the next week; I can't remember if the park crossing is paved. The following mess of a link should show you what I was thinking.

Looks like a good trip to me. Terri and I should be able to make it. The only weekend we're not available in Sept is the 15-16 as my Dad is going in for major surgery that weekend so need to stay local. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Thx Scott

Would love to but I am pretty tight for September. Motorcycle trip to West Virginia from the 8th to the 15th and a Saturday cruise day with a bunch of cars from the Tuesday Cruise nights here in Rockland on the 22nd. Other than that I am free. So once you pick a date i will see what I can do.

Ottawa Cruise

Anything being thought about for the Vintage Wings airshow on Sept 15th?

I tried the cruise route today and though it was a great drive (especially through the park) any of you who have paint on your car would probably not appreciate the section of gravel on the road that crosses through the park. So the best choice is probably a there-and-back, I did spy a good chip truck location that has great reviews Awesome Chip Wagon near Gatineau Park – La Patate À Carlo | ottawans.ca

I realized that if we want to keep the group together it's probably a good idea to avoid as many lights as possible so a good starting point would be the Esso parking lot right near the park entrance 392 Boulevard Alexandre-Taché.

Hello, Karen and I are available next weekend for a cruise.
I think we could probably get a few others there as well,

Jim

Up for a ride just about any weekend. (Week days not so much.) Next Sat is looking good for weather (so far). Realize this leaves some out but if we try to get the perfect date and weather it likely won't happen. We can always do others. Suggest we go for next Sat and if the weather craps out we try Sunday and if it craps out then the following weekend.

Cheers, Rod

By next weekend I assume you guys are talking about the 15th? What time works best; I'd propose getting together first thing in the morning or very late afternoon so we can hit the fry stand for lunch or dinner. Who's in for a 5PM departure from the park entrance?

I'm trying to think of past cruise participants, anyone know how to reach out to anyone else? The forum doesn't seem to be as busy as it once was.

I may need to reserve a seat in someone's car as I have just found a weeping crack in my water jacket. Now there's a weeping owner in the driver's seat.

The weather is looking good but we can always call the 16th the rain day.

I drove the Eardley Road through the park three weeks ago (not in the Cobra) and it's a terrible gravel road for several Kms. Out and back is the best option.

This weekend looks like it might be wet for one day. I want to go to the Air Show on the dry day, so I'm watching the forecast. Have to pass on a cruise this weekend. Next weekend 22/23 is a possible.

John

Saturday is looking better, they're only forecasting a 40% chance of rain in the morning. Let's stick with 5PM on the 15th and keep our fingers crossed. Post #5 has an updated route that is gravel free.

The air show is supposed to end by 4 so if there's only one day of sun this weekend the show ends with plenty of time to get to the park entrance. Now let's spread the word and get some cars out!

Hi Jason,
I talked to a couple of the guys last night and it doesn't look like this is going to happen this weekend. Life gets in the way sometimes. Bert and I will likely be out on one of the days and will give you a ring to see if it is convenient to drop by for a visit. Next good date looks like it may be the 29/30th. Note that all of our drives have normally been earlier in the day. For some meeting up at 5PM would get them home a bit later than they would like (including me).

What's the deal with the coolant leak? Is your block cracked??

Cheers, Rod

A water jacket crack at the front of the head that is a slow seeper but probably intersects with the head bolt boss. Machinists and welders have turned me down (welding cast iron makes me itch anyway) so I'm trying the farmer fix and hoping it holds until winter. I'll be on the road this weekend if you guys are going somewhere interesting.

I was trying to time things in light of the air show, looks like either day will be good for that now. If anyone is still interested in a late afternoon cruise tomorrow let me know.

Jason

Are you running the stock heads? I have a set of those in the basement.

BTW, just crossed the bridge into Quebec a few minutes ago and hit some rain. Also a couple of heavier showers going on north of here.

Environment Canada didn't get anything right about today's weather.

I should have said near the front of the head, the crack is actually in the block. JB weld has pretty much solved the leak but this has me debating whether I should build a Dart 347 with a turbo or a naturally-aspirated 427 this winter. The turbo-stroker is probably more trouble but would have a nice flat torque curve and the turbo would be a great exhaust silencer.

A man who wanted to actually finish his car would probably just live with what I have for now.
