Since the dollar is so good right now, I'm considering buying my bare engine block/rotating assembly (fordstrokers) and tranny (forte's) in the US and having them shipped to Sweetgrass MT so all I'll I have to pay is the GST at the border and no crazy brokerage/international shipping fees.
Let me know if you can provide any feedback about them if you've used their services before.
You can also use At The Boarder Storage check out there web site. Alot of the guys at work use them. They have a fork lift at this place http://www.attheborderstorage.com/
Hey Patrick,
As for the tranny, I too spoke with Mike (Forte), but The Gear Centre (off Blackfoot Tr) matched his price and I didn't have to pay freight. I also like buying local so if something ever does go wrong - you're less likely to get the run-around. Although The Gear Center told me they would honor a Tremec tranny warranty regardless of where it was purchased. Also, factor in: your time, gas, milage on your vehicle, etc. That's my 2 cents worth!
Geoff
PS. Are you stopping by on Fri, haven't spoke to you in a while?
I have used both, they are good to use; I had tires, tranny, clutch and bellhousing shipped there and it saved me about $500 just in shipping costs alone plus you can stop at the duty free store and grab some cheap beer instead of paying the crazy prices here.

I'll check out the Gear Center...I just assumed they would be charging more than the US vendors...
I'll try to stop by Friday if I can....been crazy busy at work lately, it all depends on when I can get out of the office....
I have recently had a bad experience at the MSO in Sweetgrass, Mt. The short version is while picking up a couple of parcels, I also met with a auto carrier well outside the vicinity of MSO, in fact by the gravel road that borders the five or six businesses in that area. Anyhow, while loading a delivered -42 GPW onto my trailer, a man named "Sid" came out, walked all the way over and demanded money for using their services. I tried to explain that I had not had the jeep delivered to their address or used their services for this, the man refused to listen and became agitated. I asked to speak to the manager, Zachary Barrett with whom I have had only good experiences, but the man said that "Zachary don't work here no more". He continued by banning me from using their services in the future. I couldn't care less because if that is how these people will conduct business, then I have no intention in dealing with them.
I will be looking for alternate businesses who can sustain a courteous and professional attitude and I advice everyone to do the same.
I have not imported much. I bought my complete engine/clutch/trans setup from Sean Hyland. He is in Ontario so no import issues, delivery to the house was included in the competitive price. The service was fast, the whole thing was assembled and ready to go.
Comment on Forte's removed

I had a very bad experience with Mike Forte over my hydraulic clutch kit, he sent the wrong slave mount, he offered to replace it but blamed me for not telling his guy that is was for a Coyote, which was discussed in numberous mails previous to the order. He did not send the fittings, line or reservoir. He claimed that he could not supply the fittings for the kit. After a strong phone conversation he said he would send everything, but the package arrived with only the line and a banjo fitting, still missing two critical fittings and the reservoir. I sent a mail about this but he never replied. Use Forte's at your own risk.
What on earth does this have to do with the original post? A chance to bash a extremely supportive vendor? Come on!
