Oregon Coast Cruise Hwy101 - August 2012

By popular demand I'm arranging another 3 day cruise down Hwy 101 along the Oregon Coast. Please let me know if you are going to join us. Last year we had a great time!

Here is what I do have arranged so far:

Friday 8-17-12 - Seattle to Seaside
(Group Name: "NW Club Shelby Cobra Association")

Saturday 8-18-12 - Seaside to Florence
(Working on Group Discount. Will be setup on Friday7-6-12)

Sunday 8-19-12 - Return drive up I-5 home.
(working on alternate routes to avoid traffic in Portland and Olympia)

See attached PDF's for more information.

This is my first time arranging a trip like this. Any help is welcome.

***********
I need to fax the contracts to the hotels on Monday 7-9-12. Then we can book the rooms.

I sure want to try and make this. I may have to be out of town so won't know for sure for a few more weeks. Had a blast last year. I will keep you informed if I am a positive. Crossing my fingers.

Skip I tried calling each hotel and they don't have anything about us coming. Do we have a special rate at either hotels? I told them I was with NW Club Shelby Cobra Association and they knew nothing. Anyone in particular we should contact. I wanted to go ahead and make reservations just incase I was able to go. Let me know.

that's a great trip-I'm heading to the cobra picnic end of August-then cutting over to the coast and coming north (to avoid I-5 on sunday) spending one night somewhere's and hitting the cheese factory-then Astoria and heading east at Aberdeen (up 101 to home).

I arranged with the Shilo under the group name "NW Cobra Club" and they chenged it to "NW Club Shelby Cobra Association". Give that a try. Also I have not setup the Casino package yet. They have not responded to my emails. I'll call them tonight or tomorrow and get it arranged.

I faxed in the contracts for the Seaside Shilo Inn and Three Rivers Casino & Hotel today. Hopefully on Monday thay will be all setup. We'll have a block of 15 rooms available.

There is a very small window to get the discounted rates. Both hotels are closing the discounts 30 days before our stay there. We need to book our rooms by July 17th at the latest.

I'll be calling on Monday to make my resverations.

My reservations have also been made. If it works out I may try and come up on Thursday to join the group Friday morning. This was such a blast last year. Hopefully I will be seeing everyone soon.

That was my plan. What was the name of the place we stayed? I would like to go ahead and make reservations. Just hope work doesn't get in the way. I have a lot going on around that time and may not know for sure until 3-4 days before. I have been pretty fortunate this summer with all the long trips I have been able to take.

We plan on leaving the Tacoma Park and Ride & McDonald's at 8:00AM sharp.

McDonald's
10417 Pacific Highway Southwest
Tacoma, WA 98499

I live in Lynnwood and will be leaving here about 6:30am. We'll be entering I5 about Exit 177.

Last year we came back thru Lincon City and stopped for lunch. Matt Brown led us thru town to a nice place. Hope Matt is willing to do it again.
I-5 S to I-5 N - Google Maps
Here is an updated route back thry Lincon City and uses 205 insted of I-5 thru Portland. Don C led us on fun back streats avoiding traffic jam last year.

I'll post and print copies of the final directions to be passed out when we meet on Friday.

I would like everyone who has FRS radios to bring them. It will make keeping in touch easier. I'll bring my 4 radios in case someone need to borrow one.

See you all soon,

The construction at the I5/I205 interchange that jammed everything up last year on the way back has been completed. Since that area is more or less my "back yard" we can see what it looks like coming into that area and, if it's bad, I can route us around it again.

I would be more than happy to handle the lunch stop in Lincoln City. Just incase work gets in the way and I am unable to go I have listed the restaurant and # below. I have another idea you may want to consider. Remember last year when we got to Lincoln City we got stopped in bad traffic? Their is a road just before you get into town on the left called NE Devils Lake Road. It will take you south around the city congestion and is not a bad road. Take a look on a map. Hope to see everyone soon.

Kyllo's Seafood & Grill
1110 NW 1st Ct
Lincoln City, OR 97367
(541) 994-3179
Kyllo's Seafood & Grill Restaurant | Lincoln City, Or.

Lunch alternative

Matt is right. NE Devils Lake road by passes the majority of the stop lights in LC & brings you back to 101 by the outlet mall south of the city. Don't forget MOE's for great clam chowder. It is in the south end of LC past where you reenter 101 if you take NE Devils Lake Rd.

BTY it's nice drive by the lake, in the trees, a bit curvy as well.

Signed up alternative route to i-5

reservations made.

as an alternative to going back through lincoln city again, there is a fun route from Waldport to Philomath to I-5 at Corvallis, Via Hwy 34 in Waldport to Hwy 20 outside of philomath to I-5. It snakes along the Siuslaw National Forest. Nice curvy drive..

Updated route map

Thanks for the great input. I've added Moe's Resturant and the route around Devils Lake. Here is the latest route. If you have any other thoughts please send them to me. Don will help us on the return route thru Portland like last year.
