It took me a long time to get used to wearing gloves for working, but most of the construction jobs I work on now require them (and supply them) for the entire work site. Now , I don't feel right working without wearing them anymore.
A couple months ago, I was drilling through a box and when the bit went through it caught my glove on the inside of the box and twisted the heck out of my middle finger from the force of the glove wrapping around the spinning bit. I thought I broke my finger and it took several days for the swelling to go down enough for my finger to be useful again.
I had the same thing happen about a year ago with the Mechanix gloves and my drill press and it was extremely painful, but no broken bones- yet. As long as you're careful, they are a great addition to your tool box, IMHO.
