Hanging out in Michigan (Detroit Airport area)

I got "displaced" to my airline's Detroit base, and I'll be commuting from Atlanta.

I am spending 20 days a month hanging out, and occassionally flying a trip (mostly hanging out), spending a lot of time there "on call" (2 hours from the airport, 12-15 hours a day)... sometimes 5-6 days of waiting.

So, I'd love to meet up with people in the area and talk/see/work on cars or go to any kind of motorsport racing. I'm not sure where I will find an apartment (I think I would prefer a garage with a cot, and an engine stand!).

Anyway, if there are any events in the area, I'd love to hear about them. I'll keep my eye on this part of the forum.

Eric

Hi Eric - August 18th is the Woodward Dream Cruise, probably one of the biggest car events around. It's a car show & cruise on Woodward Ave. North of 9 mile, south of 15 mile, plus some in downtown Pontiac. The official day is Saturday the 18th, but I actually prefer the weeknights leading up to the show.

If you want to tinker, they just opened a TechShop in Dearborn/Allen Park. I joined and like it so far. It's like a gym, but with fabrication equipment instead of excercise machines. Monthly dues and classes you have to take before using equipment, but it's pretty well equipped. TechShop is America's 1st Nationwide Open-Access Public Workshop -- What Do You Want To Make at TechShop?

Great Lakes Cobra Club will be at 555 S Old Woodward Ave in Birmingham all day Saturday, August 18. Usually a pretty good collection. FFR's and others. I'll be there for the first time this year. Stop by!

This link and website has tons of info:

Events | The Woodward Dream Cruise

Pretty much the whole week prior if you drive up and down Woodward you will see things going on.

The club does a least one cruise the week before. It is on Tuesday after our meeting. We park at the 555 building on Woodward after driving the length of it. This will be my 6th year I think.
