Anyone going??
I know it is a ways away but it will be here way too soon.
This event will be the historic can am cars with the Lola T70's as the feature.
Any input on this event would be great as I have never been to an event of this size.

Road America and the Hawk Challenge with Brian Redman will be an event that once you go, you will return every year.
Make sure to attend the parade of race cars that runs from the track to downtown Elkhart Lake....to Siebken's Bar, etc.
oh, and if you haven't read The Last Open Road by B.S. Levy -pick it up.
I will be there working for my boss, Heacock Classic. -Stop by our booth and say 'hello' if you decide to attend.

Just about any automobile over which you may have lusted will be there for competition. Days are fun at the track and nights are, too, in the village of Elkhart Lake.
I've spectated at the track since 1976 and raced on the track from 1990 thru recent years. Best of Track Food, Viewing, etc. and if you are interested, try Touring on Friday. It's not as much fun on Sat and Sunday as it gets pretty busy, but lunchtime of Friday has usually offered some fun laps in your own car.
Best regards, Tom

Glad to hear that there will be some people from the Forum there..
I am really wishing my RCR70 was together but....That is a year away.
I drove my coupe for parade laps at VIR many years ago and that was great as it made the 1000 mile trip each way a little easier.
But will sadly be leaving it at home as there will be 3 of us going.
My wife is glad that we do not have a road course close to home as we would be in the poor house due to my needing to race.

I work in the concourse for this event. My wife and I usually drive up on Wednesday and come back Monday. We never get tired of being immersed in heritage cars and the drivers too. Met Bobby Rahal last year and Brian Redman always has time to stop and talk. Full access to the paddock is unforgettable. Hanging out in turn 5 is our favorite seat. Bring good walking shoes. Be sure to go into downtown Elkhart Lake early Friday to find parking. The parade of cars coming in from the track will shake the ground but the crowds have gotten larger each year too so parking gets to be a challenge.
July can't get here soon enough for me.
Enjoy
A

I'm a Road America junkie. I've been going there since '91 and started racing there in '93. I try to make it for all three vintage events (spring & fall fests, as well as the Bric - now called the Hawk). For those who've never been there, the track has incredible history, as well as the surrounding area. Road racing began in the area in '50 and the original course (public roads) is marked very well with historic signs - you can also take a photo at the old in-town start/finish line in Elkhart Lake right in front of the old feed mill. The food and lodging is awesome (it's a very old resort area that 100 yrs ago catered to the meatpacking families from Chicago and the brewery families from Milwaukee), but by far one of the best alternatives is to camp at the track next to your car. The track has over 500 acres of park-like viewing areas and very good facilities (including showers if you're a camping sort). Make sure you explore and check out all the areas - my favorite is Canada Corner (Turn 12) as the cars just sound incredible powering up the hill out of the corner through the trees. Don't forget to have an egger for breakfast and a brat for lunch! For a great dinner, try the Lake Street Cafe (even sitting at the bar for chow is a treat) in downtown Elkhart Lake - especially on Saturday nights when the farmers' market is in town that morning as everything is fresh from the fields.
If they're offering track touring the day you're there, definitely take advantage of the opportunity to get your car out on-track, too.
I even have spent years scouring Ebay and estate sales for Road America memorabilia - I have a couple of old water transfer decals that will be going on my FFR and a few event programs and paddock passes from '64 & '65 that will be on my car's seats at the track and other events once it's done.
Hope to see a bunch of FFRs there - look for me and 7074 by the fall vintage fest - you'll find me camping either down by the trees between the Sargento bridge and the start of the forest going down to Turn 5 or up on the hills overlooking Turn 3.

Chris,
I do not know if my old coupe will be there as there are 3 of us going and I really do not want to trailer the car...
We are planning on camping as we will need to save some $$$$ to cover the added cost of fuel..

Should be purchasing tickets for the event and a camping space in the next week.
Are there any places that we should visit along the way from the east coast as we will be driving out and would like to check out some museums that contain GT40's or race cars.

I ll be going up for the Fall Vintage Fest. I m shooting for the Fri. Sept. 7 date , weather permitting. I ll be taking my Daytona coupe.
I m also trying to round up a couple other cobra owners to go. I have about 4 other definite maybe's.
We might convoy from North side of Milwaukee.
Turbonut,
I would love to go to the Fall Vintage Fest but 28 hours of driving each way will make it a once a year trip and the Lola T70's are the feature for the July event.
Yes, I really love the Can Am style of cars and can't wait to see them upclose.
So far I will be stopping in MD to checkout a GT40 and also stopping at Summit Racing in Ohio.
Still looking for other places like car museums or collections that have a racing theme to visit.
Regards,
Mark

The tickets have arrived and the plan is in place for the long trip to Road America.
We will be tent camping at space 15 if anyone gets a chance stop by and say hello.
We have an old Blue 1985 Suburban as our transportation as 3 of us will not fit in the Daytona and I am not going to trailer it that far just for parade laps.
Regards,
Mark
