This is the 6th Annual Run For The Hills event, so perhaps a few of you have already attended and can jump in.
You may have seen the recent My Classic Car episode of the 2011 event. While it rained off and on during that day they had over 800 cars. Kay and I took an evening drive this week just to be sure we knew how to find Poplar. While Poplar may not be “in the middle of nowhere”, “nowhere” must be just over the next hill! Beautiful mountain valley. The old Poplar School house and grounds are the home base for the Carolina Pushrodz.
Below should be all the info to get you excited and get you there. See you Saturday????
Don’t be late, I am told it fills up VERY quickly.

Ya know, that sounds like a wonderful event / venue. I just "GoogleEarthed" it and the setting is beautiful! That area (well actually the Erwin side of things and through the Nolichucky Gorge is one of our favorite driving areas. Unfortunately, I've got a wedding tomorrow and can't make it.
A bunchy of us Knoxville guys ought to do it sometime!

I was up there 2 weeks ago and the Erwin to Red Hill road (Popular is in between) was closed. Perhaps it's open now. Most in Erwin call it the Rock Creek road.

Just the two FFRs and about 740 others of the "afflicted".
Perfect day.
No rain until we got back to the house then band after band of heavy rain.
The 45 minute drives up 197 and the return on 19W were very beautiful.
My camera died, so there are only two photos.
The second is of a 47 Chevy........yea I know.....me neither! But the fabrication was fantastic.
Sorry others could not make the trek. But it was definitely worth it.

Thats a fantastic turnout considering there was also a car show over between Erwin and Jonesborough Tenn. Thats only about 30 mi. away, but shows you the incredible popularity of car restoration in that area. Glad you had a nice trip, that area is full of scenic back roads.

I wondered why you had not joined in the discussion. The post went off the page pretty quick and there seemed to be little interest from the SE group as a whole. Summer trips in the mountains are some chancy trips with all the afternoon storms. Carolina Pushrodz does a great job. There were no fees for ANYONE. Just come and have a great time and watch out for the cow patties..........
We have a shack up near Celo and made the trip over to Poplar from there but it is certainly a doable drive from Asheville and even from Greenville. Lots of Tenn folks because it was just over the hill from Erwin and eastern Tenn.
I have yet to find many photos. Here are the few that I did locate.
