I missed this event last year as I was recovering from open-heart surgery, but mostly because my car was at Whitby's getting painted. I plan to be there this year. They are planning a big day with a car show put on by the Roanoke, VA Corvette club; a bike show and three exibitions during the day on main street in Tazewell,VA by a motorcycle stunt rider. There will be vendors and the usual festivities for the day.
Thanks for the info. My son Mike and I have done the "Tail" a number of times but were not aware of the "Back"...so to speak.
We were working toward motoring to the All Ford Event at Carlisle over June 2 but with this info I am going to see if he will agree to go to this instead.
Our plan would probably be to make it to Bluefield, WV for Fri nite then on to Tazewell, The Back of the Dragon, Marion, and back home on Sat.
Maybe we can come and bring some other Tail of The Dragon riders with us.
Bob
That would be Great...maybe we could hook up for supper Friday evening when you get to Bluefield. I live just over the mountain into VA from Bluefield. I'm 10 miles off I-77 at exit 64 just 2 miles before you go thru the tunnel into WV. pm me and I'll give you my phone if your plans to come this way come together.

Due to a poor weather forecast for Friday, Mike and I have kicked this around and have come to a decision to make the run a one day road trip and will fire ole' blue up & leave Raleigh Sat at 6 AM putting us at Marion about 10 AM, check out the south end festival at Marion, run the Dragon north bound, ck out the north end festival at Tazewell, run the Dragon south bound back to Marion, and head home, probably getting back before dark.
FYI, it's about 212 miles to Marion, 32 miles up the Dragon's Back to Tazewell, 32 miles back to Marion, and another 212 miles back to Raleigh for a total day's road trip of about 500 miles, give or take.
Weather for Saturday looks great at this point and so far no one has signed up to come along but if you or anyone else is interested in catching up with us along the way let me know and I will give you our route.
Thats great guys and here's wishing you good trips. I'll be at the car show in Tazewell with my car (grad link Graduation time for Mk III 6079 ) until a little after two for the trophy distribution and then will run the Back to Marion and return.

It was great to meet you guys and glad you enjoyed the day.
Mine got off to a rocky start; the wife spent Friday night with her younger brother at his home to see him off to be with the Lord (he had Renal cell carcinoma) at 0430 Sat morning. She called me at 0600 to come up and help the Funeral home folks load him in the hearse (he was a really big guy).
Then it was back to the house, fix some breakfast, a little last minute cleaning on the roadster and then off to town. I entered THE car in the car show and enjoyed the interaction with everyone and fielding questions about my car; and especially:
picking up this.
Then I made the run over the back of the Dragon to Marion and back, picked up a couple of pizzas so the wife didn't have to cook for supper and headed home. So it was a rough start but a very nice finish
