Rain or Shine Sat Sept 29th. That is the date for the rally you love to hate. We have a good route roughed out that will be starting and ending at:
Moose Lodge
244 Fuller Rd
Chicopee MA
It is very easy to get to from the Mass Pike or 291. The format will be the same as previous years with vague directions and questionable answers I'll be posting more details soon, but if you can't wait simply search for Gumb-ALS Rally to get the flavor of previous years.
The Gumb-ALS Rally is an informal "run what ya brung" fun rally event, with all proceeds going to the ALS Association in an effort increase awareness and to help find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
When:
Saturday September 29th, 2012 Rain or Shine
Drivers Meeting at 10:15 AM, The first contestant leaves at 10:30 AM
Pre-Registration ends Sept 16th
How:
The Rally starting location is the Moose Family Center Lodge at 244 Fuller Rd Chicopee.
Cars will be leave at 3 minute intervals with the start order being the same as the order of registration. Each team will receive Rally directions and a list of questions that must be answered by finding clues along the Rally route. When successfully completed, these directions will bring all contestants to a midpoint location where you can stretch your legs.
At the midpoint location the teams will start their 2nd set of directions that will return them back to the where they started for lunch, (BBQ Chicken, ziti, meatballs, baked beans, roasted potoates....etc).
• The Winning score is based on the number of correctly answered Rally questions and any extra points. The route is not timed, but I think it should take ~1 hr per stage, although I have been proven wrong in the past.
• "Das Equalizer" is back for extra points this year, so bring a digital camera/phone if you like.
• In the event of a Tie, odometer mileage will be used as a tie breaker
• Contestants must obey all rules of the road while participating.
• Trophies will be awarded.
Registration Fee:
A Registration Fee of $60.00 enters one Driver and one Navigator, and covers the meal and event shirts for both. Any additional passengers are $15.00 each
Registration Fee is Payable by Check: Make your Check Payable to Sean Lamontagne, add a note "ALS Contribution" for Tax deduction purposes, and note your shirt sizes you'd like.
Mail in your pre reg to: Sean Lamontagne, 147 Abbey St, South Hadley MA. 01075

Sorry everyone but I must bow out this time, (it's unfortunate because we were going to win). It seems my younger brother is getting married on that date, it was a tough choice. Martha's Vineyard wedding! It is ironic too I heard thru the "vine" that this years course includes Martha's Vineyard!! Yes, it is his first marrage (41!) and I am in the wedding. Best man/go figure... So does that put Ron or John in the pole position?
There is always next year.
Good Luck to all and have fun.
Thanks Sean and Roxanne (and Jim) for all the hard work and giving everyone a great opportunity to "play with cars".
Bill and Helena

Too bad as I was working on your trophy this evening. Your answer sheets are easy to detect as they are the ones that arrive crumpled up in a ball and the answers are written in pen, pencil and crayon....all on the same page.
Since the starting order is based on receipt of registration. The top four thus far are GumbALS regulars.
Bill Tak
Ron
Jon A
Therefore John will take the pole.
Note: starting order has no relevance to finish order.
Also note: the past two years, the team that finish last one year has gone onto finish first the following year.
I rudely pushed Ron out of the way to be ahead in the lineup
I therefore surrender my lead spot and pole position to Ron, and take 2nd spot.
Stil plan on finishing this year though!!

That is a kind gesture, but I prefer to be behind you.

We are scheduled to be racing the Cuda at New England Dragway on that date. If anything changes (or we get rained out) can I show up the morning of the 29th and be in the rally?

Sure Shawn you can show up that morning and run. The entrance fee/donation will still be $60 as previous years. That is for a driver and navigator. I just have to get the food squared away and mid point location before posting specifics and times. The reason for the pre-reg is two fold, it dials in the number of participants for food and shirts so we don't go too far over, and it gives us a starting line up that benefits those that reg early.

Sean, you apparently forgot that I told you several months ago at the thing with the thing that we were already in for the rally.
Does that mean we're first? We are the defending champs after all.

1>The only way Tak will finish first is if he never leaves the parking lot.
2> This pole?
Whoever guesses what it is and what happened to it can have it.

Custom made aluminum back scratcher? Looks like the raw materials are by "Featherlite" and the custom bend by Dodge. Very rare. Who has a Dodge?

It looks vaguely familiar... sure has the profile of a Dodge front end

I pity the fool that passes me!
RE63, I'm thinking you could hammer it flat and make it into a spoiler for your car, then you'd be set for next spring's oil change and replace spoiler maintenance.

It's a good thing that we're not a competitive group. As you basked in the thrill of a commanding victory, others are were using their freinds (ie Andrew Jackson, George Washington..etc) to quell their agony of defeat by registering.
John F and Henry it will be good to have you join us again.
Let the trash talking begin..................,I'm a little late for that announcement though.
I promise to not crack a distributor cap this time.
