Wont Restart on Hot Days

When driven on hot days for a while and then turned off, the car will not restart until fully cooled......approx 2 hours.

Could the problem be the Ignition Control Module?

If you note its position, it is close to the water neck and recieves a lot of radiating heat.

Thank You

That's the TFI (tick film ignition) module. They have been known to fail with heat, however more often than not when they do the engine simply shuts down while running rather than failing to restart. When you say "won't restart" is it a matter of slow cranking or does it crank at full speed but not fire?

Jeff

Cranks at full speed but not fire. But, I took a wire and inserted into spark plug wire and cranked it and the wire sparked to the manifold. However, I have no idea about the strength of the spark.

Online research is telling me it can be the TFI module or the stator inside the distributor.

I just want to note that this is a donor pallet with high miles and Im not sure how old both are.

Replace both, one at a time, or the coil. There are a lot of things that do not like heat. Take your time and be methodical about it. Richard.

Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on? How hot is it outside? My '89 donor had the same symptoms and it turned out that the fuel pump inertia switch would trip when the outside temp was over 100 deg. I just noticed that I didn't hear the fuel pump one hot day and reset the inertia switch. In order to fix the problem, I moved from Sierra Vista, AZ. Today's temp in San Antonio isn't much better.

mine does something simular, not sure mine is heat related, but it might be.... Cranks full speed, has spark and fuel, but won't fire. I remove the fuel pump relay and the car starts right up. I turn it off, put the relay in and it fires up and runs fine!! Yet to figure out the real problem, but I can get around it!!!
