T-5 to 3550

I am seriously thinking of changing my T-5 setup to a 3550. What is the difference in a adapter plate for the stock bellhousing and a new bellhousing that some offer. The length difference is small for the two, but is it enough to make for a change in driveshafts. Does the the 3550 slide up into the Mark II frame like a T-5 or does the engine have to come out. I assume the 3550 will mount to the existing Mark II transmission mounts that were used by the T-5. If I go to a adapter is the imput shaft long enough on the 3550 to reach the pilot bearing. And finally does the 3550 shifter go into the existing hole in my tunnel. Sorry for the preponderence of questions.

I'm not sure how an adapter plate could be made for this application. I bought a new bellhousing for my 3550 for only $125, and it is identical to the stock T5 piece except the bolt pattern. The stock bellhousing has provisions for either bolt pattern, but once one pattern has been drilled and tapped the other pattern can't be, as a couple of the holes would overlap. The Tremec mounts in the car the same, but the rear of the trans. casing must be trimmed and the front edge of the frame mount must be trimmed for clearance. I've got a Mark I, so I can't comment on the Mark II specific questions.
