Polar opposites

Driving to the open house today I was looking At Bill Loefflers sexy rear end for three hours, when this picture emerged.
It struck me that we have two polar opposites here. One sleek, calculated fuel sipping mode of transportation, and then the raw unadulterated gas guzzling Coupe.
You know where my choice lies.....

John

Nice ride, the coupe that is. Curious about the "flaps" behind the rear wheels. Did you custom make these?

Ding ding ding we have a winner!!!

Chris, that's right!!

Ron, it is Bill Loeffler's coupe, but yes he made those flaps. They attach to the body with screws I believe, and where painted in the body color. Bill loosely copied them from one of the originals.

It's funny you mentioned about a Prius. As my Dad and I were driving home this afternoon we saw a Prius and were talking about how BIG the Prius looked next to the coupe.

Well the conversation was pretty short as we were yelling to each other to try to hear over the mufflers. We both realized it was just easier to not talk......

Matt,

I passed you guys on the highway, honked the horn and waved but I don't think you heard me over the pipes!

Thanks funny. Yeah, sorry I didn't hear or waive back.
One thing I noticed when driving the coupe is that since the car is so low, when I look out the side window I can't easily see into the window of the car next to me. I need to kind of lean over and look up to see out higher.

I stayed in the slow lane and was getting passed by everyone as I was trying to keep the RPM down to keep the engine cooler and noise down.

Glad yet not glad to hear this as I'm in the same boat. Thought I was the only one wit that problem. Worse in town. Okay if moving at typical city speeds but it wants to just keep on rising up to about 200 when it just sits there in traffic. It only defeated the overflow tank once however, the rest of the time no issues. Are there better radiators out there for the coupe?

Bill's car has some amazing custom details. He has rolled on some miles and the rear flaps are probably a very practical addition.

Matt, your car looks great. You had some still competition in Wareham. Congrats on the award. It sounds as if we all have that 2200 RPM exhaust resonance, it will create more hearing damage for sure. One of the next additions to our Coupe will be a fan shroud as temps climb to 210 degrees with temps in the high 80s in traffic. Our A/C isn't charged yet either.

Maybe we'll get 0652 there next year, I would have loved to meet you all. Glen

I had the same problem. Solved it with a high flow thermostat and high flow water pump. Runs rock solid on 180 all day long.

cooling fix

I had overheating problems at first and I like long trips. Installed an oil cooler and it makes a huge difference. Inly time it overheats is if stuck in stop and go. And a good fan shroud is a must.
