Quicktime still hasnt fixed the starter cut-out prob!

Before installing my new Quicktime Bell, i did a bunch of reading and watched the videos around the starter issue misalignment in the mid-plate--
Funny thing is, QT still hasnt rectified the prob-- i had to ease mine about 1/8". Comon' guys! i dont run a manufacturing facility , but it cant be that hard to fix!

Hi,
I have a hard time believing that Lakewood/Prestolite knows of the problem and it isn't fixed yet. Just a small change in the CNC program and it's fixed.... That would be to easy. With the bellhousing over $500.00 I think it should be perfect...

Hey Mike-- by the way- that was me that ordered the fork and kit on friday-- thanks for the great service!

Rob, the alignment check took me about 1/2 hour. You remove the flywheel, put on the midplate (blockplate, engine plate, whatever you want to call it). then put the flywheel back on, torque the bolts, then put the bell on, torque all 6 bolts.

Now you take a dial gauge and magnetic base , and mount it on the flywheel and run the stand's arm out the main bell output opening. Mount a dial gauge with the stylus running the rim of the opening , so as you turn over the engine slowly by hand, the dial gauge measures the how closely the bell opening is aligned with the center axis of the crank.

Mike,

When I built my car I bought a McLoed housing, and the piece welded to the starter hole ID was WAY OFF. Called McLoed and they told me to grind on it.

I dialed the Mcloed in, and it was ok in that regard. It was made in CHINA.

I removed the welded in piece, mounted the starter and re welded same. That steel housing was awful, and weighed a TON..

While Gordon was painting the car, he pulled the motor FREE to install a new rear main seal as he sold me the motor, and I had him install a new quick time shield while he was at it.

Bill

As a sidebar to the bell alignment, contrary to what i have read and watched, it is not the silver tranny ring that i used with my TKO600 (the 6 inch ring that fits in the main output cutout where the transmission mates in), it was the thicker gold one-- fit like a glove!
