There are two small terminals near the center of the transmission on the drivers side. Farther back, there is a connector attached to a couple inches of wire.
I assume the switch is actually inside the transmission and that when the shifter is placed in the reverse position the circuit is closed, allowing electricity to travel, illuminating the lights.
I can check to see if there is continuity by running a couple leads to these connections, and setting a multimeter in the Ohms mode. When the shifter is in the reverse position, and there is continuity, then I know my switch is working. If there is NO continuity when the shifter is in the reverse position, then I know I need to replace that switch.
Right?
Can these switches be replaced, and, if so, how is it done?
#1 is reverse switch. Watch out though, those are NOT threads on the prongs. There is a plug that I never was able to find that goes over it. I bought a new switch with attached pigtail from a forum vendor.
#2 is speedo
#3 is neutral safety switch, disabled with a midshift

The reverse light switch and the Neutral Safety Switch can be simply unscrewed. Some thread sealer will be needed to put it back. Most use teflon plumbing tape.

I have a TKO 600 with the same 2-prong reverse switch connection. I got a plug with pigtail from my Tremec distributor - fits perfectly (push-on, not screw threads, as noted below). Don't recall the cost, but it was nominal.

I decided to trace the wires all the way from where they connect to the trans all the way back to wherever they landed. One of the wires was actually broken. The other wire went to ground onto a frame rail.
I hooked the broken wire to a power wire that supplies juice to my fuel gauge sender.
My reverse switch does work! I can tell because whenever I put the trans into reverse my fuel gauge moves from indicating 3/4 full to empty. The reverse lights still dont light.
The GOOD news is that I know my tranny switch works.
I disconnected the trans switch wire from the power source, and now I am waiting for an electritian friend of mine to rescue me. We are so so close to fixing this..... I can just feel it.
Call Mike at Forte's he has the switch and the plug you need .I got the one for my Trans through him. He's great to deal with as well.
