Body Fitment question

Hello all I am trying to get the body back on the frame and I seem to be hanging up on the fuel tank. When measured out it looks like it should clear so I don't know if I just need to fool with it some more or if I need to cut the opening a little larger. What has been everyone's experience???

Mine (grey body) fit fine, but you have to come at it from the rear, with front high, then drop the front as you move forward. Helps to have 3 or 4 pairs of hands particularly around the rear edge of the doors and over the door hinge area.

I did not trim anything around the gas tank. I have an 86 mustang gas tank so might differ if you have a fuel cell.

Regards, Mike

mn12,

It takes a little finesse,
but you can open up the body area a little if you want.
The back edge of the body was what caught on my tank.

That's where I'm getting hung up as well. I'll keep trying before I open it up. Thanks for confirming it should be able go without cutting

I have the red body with stock Mustang tank. We did trim the lower lip, it wasn't cut straight or neat from the factory anyhow. My body man and I had the body on and off half a dozen times or so just trimming the edge until we could get it on and off without too much trouble. The body still touches but just slightly and I think the lower lip looks better.

Body fitment

Black body was about the same. I made the opening around the body where the tank is larger. In the event you have to remove the tank it's easier. No on will notice since its so far under the body from the rear.

I built up a lip around where the tank goes, then cut the opening larger.

The lip hides the large opening, as well as the corners of the tank.

You can kinda see it here
