Body number vs frame number

Just curious we have coupe 531 but I noticed today there is a different number stamped in the rear hatch area of the body (1401). Is there any particular significance to that one?

It could be the part number? We never saw any numbers on our old grey bodied Coupe.

closer inspection shows it to be 1451. I wonder if maybe it's a mold number so they know if there are any issues with a particular mold. For anyone curious here is what it looks like. It's in the hatch surround where the window seal installs at the base.

Cool

You'll bury that number in filler/primer during body work. I don't remember what my number was, but the "mold number" guess sounds like a good one.

Lightbulb

I have an older grey bodied Coupe and my frame number 118 was burned with welding rod into the bottom inside of the rectangular tube that goes behind the drivers seat across the chassis. Mine is visible at the upper front edge of my left rear tire. If you cannot see it stick your finger in a few inches a feel for it mine is visible if you look close.

I have one on mine that doesn't match the Serial number too. I feel certain it's a mold number, although I can't really read it.
