Exhaust Headers

Hi Guys:

I recall a recent thread that discussed the difficulty of getting the bolts tightened. Has there been any change in the supplier or the quality in the latest kits (purely a selfish question as my kit is coming in late May). I still struggle with getting the headers bolts tight on my Roadster kit and am concerned about having the same issue on a coupe kit.

Thanks,
Jerry

header bolts

It sounds like not much has improved in the bolt clearance issue.
I would recommend the 3/8 hex head header bolts and a high quality box wrench to periodically tighten them. I say high quality box wrench because then the wall of the wrench will tend to be thinner and give more clearance.
I check my bolts frequently . I found the first time I did, 2 had fallen out and several others were loose. It only had 300 miles on it.

We had to grind our wrench to get the thing to fit. It's really tight.

Just re-did the pass side to replace the gasket and seal to the exhaust pipes to try to eliminate exhaust leaks. Could only get a socket on two of the bolts and it is difficult to get a torque wrench on them at all. It would seem that the bolts are too too close to the ports which really is part of the original design, not the third party design. Slow work with a box wrench.

Regards, Mike

A quality header bolt with an allen wrench receptical in the head makes checking and tightening much easier. I check mine everytime I check the oil. It funny though, I only have loosening on the passenger's side, the 4 closest to the fire wall.
