FYI, the 2012 location of the annual National Convention of SAAC (Shelby American Auto Club) was recently announced. Hotels are selling out quickly so if you have any interest you should lock in your accomodations ASAP. No event details yet available but I understand there will be a couple days of track events for those looking to drive the track, in addition to shows for both concours quality and non-concours cars. Whether you are on track or taking in the sights and sounds of others flexing vintage muscles it will for sure be a hair raising experience!

Reason: Inadvertently hit the send button before completing
I am locked and loaded so wanted to give you a final heads up that SAAC-37 starts tomorrow at Watkins Glen. We will be on the track Thursday and Friday AM between 8 and 11 (my run group runs on the hour, just four 20 minute sessions) and then the SVRA vintage racers will be testing/tuning in the afternoons. Saturday is the vintage race and all of the concours activity. Hope to see some of you all there! If you make the trip on short notice, here's a link to everything you need to know.
In terms of recent mods to my Coupe, I finally got my brakes done up front (14" StopTechs) and swapped the rear end to 3.08s after snapping a carrier bolt and punching a hole in the diff cover at the last event. Let's hope for good weather and smooth laps for all!

As a side note, you can pick up your SAAC 37 registrations at gate 4A, then the SAAC parking area as well as the popular vote car show (Saturday) will be held in area 7 (area overlooking the back short straight at the top of the esses). Concourse will be held under the new bleachers at area 9.
Unofficial (yet where most SAAC personnel are staying) host hotel is the Seneca Lodge.
See you there.

Felt a bit lonely as the only Coupe at SAAC-37 but I found plenty of Ford brethren to hang out with. Got in some decent laps despite the traffic jams due to limited passing areas...
Footage from the third session from the SAAC-37 advanced run group Friday 06/08/12. Traffic was good and bad in this session because it allowed my FFR Coupe and a beautiful ERA GT-40 to get together on track, but held us back from turning some great laps together. I met up with the owner of the GT-40 in the pits afterward and found out that while I was experimenting with 3.08s and running 3rd/4th gear, the GT-40 was running 4.55s and working 3rd through 5th. Unfortunately I didn't get video from the 4th and final session but we got in some great laps nose to tail and got down into the 2:14s. Not our best times ever but it was exciting for the fans to see the Coupe and GT-40 at WOT down the front straight!
Thanks for the in-car footage Dan!
Wish I could have made it up there this year.

Thanks for the video Dan - wish I could have been there Friday to see you guys all run together. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of Coupes. I did catch a peek at one on a trailer though There was certainly some impressive equipment on both sides of the fence (track and show) and well worth the ride down.
Did you see Allen Grant there? Heard he was making a stop there, before coming to this years LCS and handing over the keys, to his tribute car,to one extremely lucky person
Pretty impressive video!!! I also love those GT40. Was in CT and saw the ERA facility a number of years ago.
On another subject, heard you talked to a corner worker that works for my son in upstate NY. Small world isn't it? I was keeping my coupe build a surprise to my son also not knowing he had procured a donor Corvette for a GTM build. My brother in law let the cat out of the bag by mistake so now we both know.
Have more track fun.
Hey Bill, yeah I met that great cornerworker while up at WGI in April when there were snow flurries in the air. Your Maine location threw me off but now it all makes sense. Awesome re: the dual double secret builds...when will you and your son be out there on track?
Todd, sorry I missed you this time. No passengers allowed this time so good thing you got a ride along last time! Oh yeah, for example this beautiful 509ci Chevy powered Lola was directly opposite me in the garages
alongside vintage IMSA cars (Chevy Monza) up to an ALMS Audi R8! Doing SAAC-37 alongside a SVRA race weekend cost us some track time, but the combinaion was quite amazing.
pelzerd, no, didn't see Allen Grant. I didn't see Mr. Mustang either. Between the tight track schedule, my young family coming to support me for the first time ever, and my Shelby nut good friend knowing people everywhere we walked, I never got too far way from the immediate paddock area.
Rumor has it SAAC-38 will be at Willow Springs so I am certainly glad I made it this year. Might be a while before it's anywhere close to me again.
Hey J, I didn't get to run at same time as the Lola. It was part of the SRVA event that was test/tuning in the afternoons. I wish I had clocked the Lola's lap times but, based on the aero package and power to weight ratio, I am pretty sure it would crush my times handily. On track at speed it sounded even more unbelievable!
