Question

I am having fuel gauge calibration problems- has anyone else had this kind of problem??

Empty calibration seems OK, but I immersed the sensor in a beer bottle full of gas (I had my wife empty the beer first, of course!!)and NOTHING??? The gauge did not move one IOTA!!

I took the sensor out of the bottle, wiped it down and held my finger over the end- the gauge headed up and read full after about 30-40 seconds??

This proves to me that the 1) the gauge does work and 2)the sensor works??

It is a 7/??? ohm sender unit- it came with the fuel cell from FFR with the kit (Kit #6- a very early kit- OK no wise cracks about the build time) and the gauge is a SW, also included with the kit. The calibration setup is as wired in the car with three "extensions" on the sensor wiring so I can immerse it out of the car. The connections of the extensions are very good electrially.

Anyone else with a early kit have this kind of problem?? Do I have the wrong sensor?? Did your supplied fuel cell sensor work OK with the SW gauge??

Thanks

I think the OHM range is 7/246 if I remember correctly- SW web site calls for for "full"
29-33 OHM's and "empty" 244-250 OHM's. This agrees with ATL's Std sender of 33/240- did FFR specify something different for the Coupes??
Thanks

Does your sender have adjustment screws on it? There should be 2, one for empty and one for full...

Angry

Found out the problem- my fuel probe is for VDO intruments- not Stewart Warner. It is a 76/6 Ohm system, not the 233/0 Ohm required for SW gauges.

GRRRR! Now I've got to buy a new probe at about $90. Anybody with VDO instruments want to buy a floatless fuel probe- CHEAP???

I tell ya!! These things will nickle and dime you to death!!
