wheel/tire fitment on coupe

I am looking at replica fr500 wheels on ebay. I can get either 17x9 all around or 17x9 up front and 17x10.5. The front 17x9 have 24mm offset and the rear 17x10.5 have 27mm offset. The wheels are made for 94-04 mustang so I assumed they would fit.

Q1: The wheels should fit fine on the coupe correct?

Q2: What is the largest tire I can fit in the front of the coupe fenders? Will 275 40 17's fit upfront on the 17x9s? I will probably get 255 40 17 up front but just curious about the 274 40 17s

Q3: What is the largest tire that will fit in the rear of the coupe fenders? I am looking at 17x10.5 with 315 35 17 in the rear.

Thanks in advance guys as I'm sure somebody already has an answer to this.

The build manual states 315's are max up front and 335's in the rear.
I think Sarge has this.

As Shaun suggested I have 17 X 10's (5.5" b.s.) w 315/35-17 front and 17 X 11's (6.00 b.s) w/ 335/35-17's rear. I have standard width front & rear. My rear is IRS. Everything fits very nicely. No rubbing no issues. Wheels are Compomotive pin drive w/ Dunlop SP 8000 rubber.

Not sure about your offset question. The 255's will look like bicycle tires on a Coupe. Go as wide as you can.
FYI I tried the Sumitomo's before I bought the Dunlop's. I learned the hard way why the Sumi's are so cheap. I suggest avoiding them if you can.

Let me know if you need any further info.
HTH
Rich

tire fitment

the 17"x10.5" for the rear fit perfect with the 315/35/17 I also run 1" wheel spacers this is on a three link car. as for the front I ran into a problem with tire rub I have 285/40/17 they only hit on stop to stop turning the 17"x9"rim that is used also had to be spaced for the mk2300 brake kit I used

I'm running 17x9 with 275-40-17's front, 95 GT spindles and 2000 GT brakes, no clearance problems at all. On the back, 3-link, I have 17x10.5's with 315-35/17's and no spacers. They clear the 3 link with about 1/4 inch to spare on a 95 GT rear. The rims came off Herb's car, not sure what the backspace is but I'm pretty sure they are the SN95 standard setup.

Many variations in the coupe VS the roadster. Generally if FX track on both ends the standard wheels 9s and 10.5s will look small on the coupe. We run 9.5s and 11s with different offsets than the standard 24 and 27. If the rear is SN95 width the 10.5s will fit and look OK just not as much dish as the 11s in FX track. I have 9s and 10.5s for track tires and run a 1 inch spacer on the rear to fill the well. A 12 would fit on the rear.

In short the coupe is 1.25 inches wider per side on the front and about 2 inches wider per side on the rear. HTH, cheers Richard.

I ordered the same wheels that Sarge has, but with white powder-coated centers instead of gray. After the wheels were on order (and they were on order a long, long time), every tire manufacturer that I could find that had previously sold matched performance street tires in 335/35-17 AND 315/35-17 quit making matched sets (I can still get autocross tires). So I bought 4 cheap Sumitomo 315s to get the car to the roller stage and to do the fitment (I can tape some spacers on the rear to make sure 335s will clear through full suspension travel). At the rate I'm progressing good tires would be cracked with age anyway before I'm driving. If anyone knows of tires I might have missed in my searching, please let me know. Maybe a manufacturer will step up to fill the gap before I need my "real" driving tires.
