leftover parts

Hi guys
Many of you know my son Brendan. well he has a new project for this winter.
he wants to convert his mustang to a 302 based v-8 and a stick
He has a really clean 86 notch 4cyl auto. ( yes very slow ). this will happen this winter, so we came up with this idea. See what you guys have first, and let that drive the direction of his build. He is not looking for just freebies but he is on a 19 yearold budget. So weather it be off a donor car, or a retired part off your project or something new on the shelf you didnt use. let us know. we dont mind traveling to pick up larger parts, and will be happy to pick up the shipping cost if it is to far away to fetch. Of coarse he will also be able to paypal for any purchases.

He will keep this updated as to how the build goes starting with a base line.

1) auto cross at Hershey next weekend sat and sunday.
2) Best ET / MPH from Cecil dragway MD nov 13
3) weight
4) dyno numbers ... starting with the 4cly.yeah i can't wait to see that one either.

Thanks
mark and brendan Dougherty

This is a pic of Brendan and the mustang with wheels he purchased off this forum.
He is leaning more towards a all around good car than just a drag car ( wheels can be changed )

you think a 3 core radiator out of a 1990 5.0L GT mustang would help?
I think I can find the old fan shroud also.
I have a good used water pump of a 1990's 5.0l mustang laying on the parts shelf too.
I really need to clean off my shelves of some of this stuff so you posted at the right time IF you want the stuff.

Mark & Brendon,

I have a garage full of stuff you could use, like a fresh rebuilt t-5, used 302 non roller block with crank, cam, rods, pistons, Iron heads with valves and springs, 90% complete gasket set, pedal box for a stick, ect. Some things I will need to get cash for, alot of the other stuff would be free.

Ill send you a pm with my phone number

Scott

Hey guys,
I've got a complete top end from an '89 5.0 (assembled heads, rockers, pushrods, lifters, cam, valve covers, EFI upper and lower). The engine was running good, no known issues with the heads, etc. I just upgraded when I rebuilt it. If I start digging around here I might have some other stuff too. Brendan can have any or all of it!

Now the kicker, how the heck to get it to you if you want it? Shipping would probably be pretty steep. Here's a couple of ideas; I'm an hour south of Indy and will gladly bring it there if your travels have you crossing through on I-70 or ??? Another possibility is that I'll be driving to the DC area next month. We'll exit I-70 and be taking I-81 south at Hagerstown. That 70/81 interchange is probably less than 2 hours from Hershey isn't it? We could meet up as I pass through.

If you are interested and want to try to work something out give me call (Mark, I think you have my number but to be sure---it's 812-327-0393) or send a PM.

Nice looking Mustang Brendan! Good luck with the project

Jeff

Shipping is going to kill you, it'll be cheaper in the long run to trailer this home and do the swap:

hi guys
wow this is actually alot of fun.
thanks for all the responces.
this is a lot more fun to dig around in your garages and see what good stuff is just sitting around.
We picked a roller up today that has a stock 8.8 rear, stock crank, rods, pistons also. he will strip any useable parts off it this week and scrap the rest ( lol maybe we should throw any the duplicate parts at it and make a FFcars lemons or chump car) that any forum member could race. just a thought.

riptide:
We have spoken to Carl about his donor but he may have someone lined up. we will see.

scott: I will call tomorrow about trans and extras.

Jeff: thanks for the offer of the stock top end but I will pass. I will in the next couple of months have some top ends off challange cars sitting here, as they upgrade to the new series specs. with the trick flow packages.

I would like to still find:
b,e,or x cam
aftermarket heads
roller rockers
stock pan and pickup
larger mass air for 24lb injectors
A9L/ or A9P computer
std pedal box.
shorty headers
373 or so gears
h or x pipe
high back seats.

Thanks
Mark D

Mark, are you going to be at Huntington Beach in April? I've got several pounds of misc. hardware (bolts, flange nuts, screws etc.) that I saved from my donor. It would be very expensive to ship across country but if you're here you're welcome to them (or just sort out what you and Brendan need/want.)

Mark,
I have an almost new Fox body fuel tank that has been converted for a carb setup that he can have for free. He would need to come to Northern Va and pick it up.........about 2 hours.

Mark, Not trying to discourage Brendan, but he has a great platform to make an SVO Mustang. Turbo parts are available at most scrap yards. Tha trans won't have to handle a lot of torque, and the HP numbers vs. weight will be better. No engine swap necessary. My son had an '86 SVO that ran great and used to spank GT's all the time. Just another option to look at. Mike

Thanks but I would like to stay fuel inj. so I will pass on the carb Tank.

Mike
I have had a couple svo mustangs and I love them. They are awsome cars.
I have been driving a lot of FFR's lately and would like to build a v-8 car now.
Dad came up with this crazy plan to build whatever we could come up with off the forum. he calls it the leftover build.
I am going to an auto cross this weekend with the notch going to try and get a better time than dad in his challenge car. Wish me luck.

Tell your Dad he needs to find you a Big Block now - that radiator can handle it!!

I'll get the shroud shipped out shortly. Do you still need a water pump?

Ralph thanks for the parts
No big blocks though.
Bren couldnt afford to drive it.
we did come up with a set of 373 gears yesterday.
Bren did his first auto X on sat & sunday. What a blast. He did very well.
I ran the challange car and got a 2nd place out of 9 cars in XP. not to shabby for just going to have some fun.

all you have to do is come and get it. I kept it to go into our spec racer as a spare but we no longer race so I just need it out of my garage. It was running when we took it out of the mustang but I havent done anything to it. We moved last year and somehow the flywheel didnt make the move. I have no idea what happened to it. Everything else is there.
