Sorry guys ! I was out of town for a few days ! I ended up purchasing a cobra on Friday and have been driving it all weekend ! This car is absolutely amazing ! I have decided that this will in no way be my daily driver. I'm planning on maybe just a sat/sun morning cruise. But wow ! So much fun ! Was a little annoying at first adjusting to the comfort level and drivability but it's a great and fun car ! Thanks to everyone for all of the help and advice. I guess we can officially close this thread!

You're going to want to invest in a car cover. Get a good all weather one.

Ace, Just want to say Congratulations on joining the club, Its been like a soap opera for the last three weeks following this thread. I know myself and many others would like to get the dirty details on the car, and how close you arrived to your initial budget. Enjoy the car!!
John
WHAT? no front license plate??? dude, you're screwed!!!! cop magnet! impound! fraud! major fines! go directly to jail, do NOT pass GO, do not collect $200......
no seriously, this has been a very interesting thread. we are glad to help, that's what we are here for.
did you really get someone on the phone in Sacramento, and if so, what did they say?
are you willing to share what you paid for the car? if not, that's okay.
Thanks guys ! I ended going with a contemporary classic with a 454 and 4spd manual trans. I called the DMV first and gave them the vin to make sure it is smog exempt. It is smog exempt and I already have the new plates and registration (but I haven't put the front plate on yet). I ended up paying alot more than I had budgeted for but from all of your advice it seemed like with these cars you really get what you pay for. Ended up paying 29k. There's a few things i would like to change to make it a little more custom to my taste like the switches, gauges, seatbelts etc. does anyone have reccomendations of a website that has a good inventory for parts?

Post a pic of the dash. If it's a Contemporary, it should have original style gauges which I would leave in. Same for the switches.

I gave the DMV the vin number from the title/registration which is also the same # on the firewall of the engine bay. On another note does anyone know how to explicitly identify if it's a contemporary classic? Personally it makes no difference to me what kind I have - It's loud, fast, and fun to drive. BUT if there were a way for me to be sure what kind it is just for future reference would be nice. If not, no big deal.

Ok, I will post a pic when I'm at my desktop next. Maybe you guys an tell me whether it's ok to change them or if it would better to leave thm in (personal taste aside)
Ace, as we've said multiple times before, if it has a CCX###### for a VIN, it's a Contemporary Classic Motorcars. There are some really early ones that don't go by a CCX, however the chances of that being the case is very slim. There aren't a whole lot of them out there, probably less than 2000 were ever made. So, look for a VIN. There should be one somewhere on your frame, etched or welded into the metal. I believe Contemporary's also have a VIN plate, but every chassis that is made to be street legal has to have a VIN on the frame. With detailed pictures, we can tell you the make for almost every Cobra ever made. But the VIN is solid proof.

Post lots of pics and we can tell you what it is. Interior, engine bay, and underside are most useful in identifying.
I'll try to put some more pics up up by the end of the weekend (trunk, interior, engine bay, etc) but here's a closer pic. Anyone have an idea/guess what kind it is based on this pic?
They must have added that roll bar to it recently, an older picture i found shows it without one.
Looks like a FF roll bar.
Hmm, I think ive only put 2 pictures on the forum and they both have the roll bar in it. (I could be wrong though, maybe I put a pic on here of before the roll bar was added and I just forgot.) but yes, I did have the roll bar added. I purchased it from shell valley.
