Project car - (On hold until Can do some work in the Spring)
I'm just testing the waters a bit to see how much interest there is in an FFR project car.
The car was mostly finished and registered in 2001, and I purchased the car a year or two before that if I remember correctly. I'll check on the exact details if there is interest. Right now though, it has been sitting for about 5 years. I went back to school at the end of the project and ran out of money. I ended up painting it myself to get it registered. I also never installed the carpeting. Other than that though, the car worked great and was running for a few years. After school, I moved back to boston and had no garage and unfortunately still don't... So, the car has been sitting outside under a tarp. I'd probably sell it as a parts or project car, I assume the condition is a bit rough at this point, but I'm sure it would still be a heck of lot less work to fix up than building a new kit from scratch.
The car has some good options, smith gauges, powder coated chassis, adjustable shocks. The motor is a 5.0, with all the GT-40 bolt on stuff.
I had been planning to fix it up myself at some point, but have not had the time or space. So, I've come to the conclusion that, at this point, maybe someone else could give it a better home.
If there is interest, let me know and I'll get you more details and current pictures.
Thanks guys, I'll respond to everyone shortly. The car is stored at a relatives house, so, I am trying to get some pictures at the moment.
In the meantime, some more details:
- it is located in MA
- As far as completion, it was almost completed, except would probably need to be repainted and carpeted. Also, at this point probably cleaned up and I have not run it in 4 or 5 years I think. So, I'm sure that it needs a tune up etc.. Maybe this ext weekend, I'll try to drain the old gas out and charge up the batteries etc... and try to get it started.
- Wheels are 17" replica knockoffs made by Image Wheels.
- The donor car was a 1989 mustang.
- I was told that the rear end was a 3.55
- I guess the kit would be a Mark I? I know it came out right before the Mark II, but I don't think they were calling it anything other than a roadster at the time.
Thanks for the interest. After taking the cover off and going over the car, it is in rougher shape than I thought. As mentioned previously there are lots of little things to fix,as it's been sitting. Some things: The brakes are seized (I guess expected after sitting). The transmission wasn't shifting well at first, but was working fine when put into storage. After moving it around a bit, it is getting better, so, I think it needs to be run a bit to get some oil on the gears. Broken amp gauge ($65 for a new one, I'll buy the new one). I haven't started it yet (solinoid clicking, but not turning over). There is rust here and there and it is DIRTY! At this point, I'd call it a base kit, plus donor car, plus tires, smith gauges, upgraded shocks, upgraded radiator ect... And a lot of the PITA stuff is done (wiring, a lot of the body work/prep wtc...). I have the carpets, they in very good condition). May be missing a few minor trim pieces etc...
I will sell it for the price of a base kit $12.9k Firm. If your interested, please let me know in the next few days. Otherwise, I've decided to get a temporary garage and restore it myself. If I go that route I'd like to get going soon though.
Matt after seeing the car and our conversation I am out.
good luck with the sale!
Having seen it, feel free to post concerns. If someone buys it, I'd rather they know what they're getting. I still won't sell it for less then 12.9 though!
Not yet... Drove out tonight and tried replacing the starter solenoid. Tried starting it off the battery of my mazda. It still was clicking, but not starting. We put a voltmeter on it and it was 13 volts, but dropped to 4 when I turned the key, so, something was dragging it down. Good news is the shifter is now shifting real nice and smooth now though!
We tried pushing it down a 200ft driveway and popping the clutch. We marked the alternator belt and it was moving a lot. We did not have a battery hooked up yet, as I need a lower-jack, so couldn't jack it up to get to the battery easily. The car was sputtering though, and the engine was turning, so, I think the starter is bad. We'll try push starting it again soon, with a battery hooked up. Otherwise, there may still be some bad gas left in the fuel lines, plugs fouled etc... so, we'll start going through the list.
In the meantime here are some more pictures. I charged the battery for my DSLR, but when I got there, there, the battery light was flashing. Go figure. I guess I'll need a new battery for that too. So, these are from my cell, but still better close-ups than the last batch.
Little rust on the batter box, but the chassis is powder coated and the major components were painted with rustolium, so, seem to have held up much better
Broken ammeter, will replace
Most of the body work has held up well after nearly 10 years (minus the scratched up paint anyways).
Some pitting though, that needs to be filled in, such as around the doors and front grill
Matt, this forum is for people who are SELLING their cars! Quit rubbing it in! Although I am frustrated, I do understand (sort of) your reason for killing our deal (and the transport company has been canceled). Congrats on getting her running.
Good job getting it running. Now drive the wheels off of it like we discussed.

Thanks smitka66. I guess I should elaborate on the SEMA situation... It appears that now older, previously registered cars are emissions exempt, but cars registered from now on, won't be. So, as for me anyways, nothing takes the joy out of a kit car more than computers and codes etc... I deal with that stuff enough at work. My goal is to someday build a nice simple carbed FFR, but it sounds like that may be tougher and tougher without having a grandfathered car (as seem to have now). Also, the title needs to be changed now, due to the new replica car designation, whether or not this is an issue when selling out of state I don't know. I think smitka66 thought it wouldn't be, but communication between state registries is not something I know anything about. Also, to be honest, when a requirement for a sale is that the car run enough to drive up on a trailer, you start tinkering with it and it's a bit addictive... This may move forums, and turn into a "re-build" thread, I don't know yet...

Matt, I'll let you slide since you are a relatively young lad and haven't had a lot of experience buying and selling vehicles. Those of us that use vehicle shipping companies regularly know that a shipper won't accept a vehicle unless it can be driven onto the trailer (especially when the new owner is a couple of thousand miles away and won't be present). It was the first question asked by the shipper when I mentioned that I was purchasing your car up in Boston. Glad it got you motivated to get her running again, though. Rob
No, I get that, that's why I asked if you needed it running. I couldn't commit to selling something that wasn't running, if you needed it running though...
Did a search but didn't find anything, did you start a rebuild thread? I'd love to watch this car rise from the ashes.
I could do that. The main reason i was thinking of selling the car originally was because I had no space. More specifically, as it turns out where I had planned to put a garage would be too close to my neighbors garage for the zoning laws, so, it a big PITA getting one built. However, as it turns out, portable garages are okay. So, a 12x24 was deliver Friday and I'm hoping a concrete slab will be poured next friday. Then I can get going
