We just got ours registered and titled 2 weeks ago.
The first drive was to take my daughter to the drill team meeting right before the football game. Lot's of honks, waves, thumbs up and shouts to her as we drove up and she got out. She was grinning from ear to ear.
Next stop was Home Depot. A guy comes running across the parking lot and said "I'm sure you get this all the time, but can I take pictures of your car?"
Not bad for the first day on the road.

I was running some errands on a nice day a few weeks ago and saw this guy snapping a pic of me at a stop light and thought nothing of it. Was doing a search the other day trying to track down a new FFR that I have seen in my neighborhood and came across this. Made me laugh.
As a side bar the actual coolest thing I have done in this car is taking my 15 year old step daughter for a ride and having her waving at everyone she sees and having her squealing louder than the tires every time I got a little over exuberant with the throttle/clutch. Really a priceless moment, it's great having a new/expanded family. Scott

It was a nice day last Saturday so I put my –almost running- roller out in the driveway with the wife’s Mach 1 to do some cleaning on them (I’ve been flooring my attic) after about an hour I went in for some coffee and came out to a driveway full of neighbors (about ten) standing around the cars. Everyone in the area comes to look at my build every time I get it out for anything, just to keep up on the progress. It’s amazing how many people these things draw in even when they aren’t done. If I start to charge admission, maybe I can muster up enough money for a new transmission…..
I hope everyone is enjoying these last few worm days of the year.
I've been following FFR since 2005, owned and raced (briefly) a challenge car and this thread still keeps me jazzed about the possibility of building and driving one of these cars.

I have had some fun & Strange things happen when driving the cobra. Wish I had a penny for every pic of my roadster people have taken while driving down the road. Went to a very large cruise-in just to look & no place to park, about 12-15 motorcyle cops parked out front in a row,one asked if I needed a parking place,I said sure, so all the cops moved thier bikes a little closer so I could park next to them, very cool. At another car show 2 very very nice looking ladies said they would give us a show if I smoked the tires(I did & they did) These cars are great!!

I participated in a High Performance Driving school up in Austin Tx, awhile back. This one happened on the way home.
I was soaked in sweat, my legs and arms were tired and sore, I was a little sunburned (yes, I did paint myself with sunscreen and used my helmet most of the afternoon), and I had bits of rubber on my face and in my helmet hair. Once I got on 71 headed back toward Austin I was in stop and go traffic. Difficult in the roadster, even when you haven't just been blasting around a track, but at the first traffic light I noticed a very attractive young blond waving from a late model Camaro RS. She was right next to me and trying to roll down the window to say something, but she kept looking to her left and shaking her head and looking back and trying to yell through the window. Eventually, it occurred to me that her boyfriend had locked the windows so she couldn't roll it down and complement my car (or ask me if I knew I had a bunch of black gunk on my face and a sunburn). I got an hour and a half of heel-toe shifting practice on my way back to San Antonio and a good laugh at a Chevy driver with an inferiority complex.
One of my friends 8 yr old twin girls just gets it. She loves to ride in the roadster. She waves at people like she was the queen of England. Her sister just didn't get it. After all, it is just Uncle Dave's convertible. One day at a light the guy next to us was waving and taking pictures and I had to explain it to her. This is a "rock star" car and he thinks you are Hanna Montana. Now she gets it. She waves at people like she is Hanna Montana.
I was able to participate in a "roadster" gathering at Lonesome Dove ranch, where Operation Comfort have an auto shop for wounded warriors. We drove out had lunch and talked cars with a bunch of young heros. Lone Star donated a kit. Thanks to MTPockets, of the Houston club.
Beautiful 70 degree day here so took it out for a short spin around lunchtime.
Got a thumbs up from a guy in a new convertible Ferrarri.
I wondered at the time how often Ferrarri drivers give thumbs up to other cars.
Later, getting gas, a woman approached and said her mom was curious what the car was. Her mom was waiting in their car and appeared to be in her late '80's or early '90's. She was very interested and we had a real nice chat. All in all, a good day.

Went on the NE 8th annual Cobra Covered Bridge Tour last October with 32 other Cobras. Loved seeing the reaction and thumbs up of the people watching us pass by.

I've been building my roadster for almost 2 years and the older guy next door has been asking me about it almost everytime he sees me outside. He's a good guy and I enjoy talking to him and ALWAYS enjoy talking about cars, especially mine. After I had my first-start, I've run the engine a few times to balance the cooling system, check the fan relay, etc, and taking it for a few go-karts (any excuse to start it up!). I am conscientious about not starting it too early or late in the evening. Their bedroom is in the front corner of the house near my house.
So I asked him if he can hear my car running, when he's in the house. He said 'yeah, but it should be quieter when you get the mufflers on it"
(I didn't tell him the sidepipes were on!)

Not very often, but perhaps more so than Corvette drivers..They seem to have their noses in the air, more than most.
True car guys, and not just one who can afford a nice car, will usually give a wave, or a thumbs up. Bikers are actually pretty good a giving a wave too. Hot Rodder's are still probably the best all round, when it comes to giving recognition, but I do get waves from almost every British sports car driver as well.
The last time I had the car out for the season, I was topping up the fuel tank when a fellow walks up and says, " So this is a real 65 Cobra?" I said "Yes, its a real 65 Cobra replica"..He looked very impressed, but didn't say anything more. I wondered if he knew what I meant..lol

Hey..............don't stereo-type us Vette owners. Some of us love our Cobras too!
Funny thing happened to me this summer while I was filling up the Cobra with gas..........an undercover police officer was at the other pump and said to me, nice car, how fast is it, 0 to ticket in less than 4 second? Mike W. 99 Vette_65 AC Cobra - Copy.jpg

If he was undercover, yet you knew he was a cop, he must not have been very good at his job.
Just found this thread. Read through it in about 4 hours. Most relaxing night of the week, and there are 4 8 yr olds having a sleep-over in in the basement.
Thanks, and I will be adding mine later this year.
I admire you men, It has been 10 years to build my 4299 car , Mine is now in the body shop for paint . I hope some day to Type you guys a time to remember ...
Was at a car show a guy and his very young son come up to the cobra he tells his son to stand by the Cobra and get his picture. I picked up the kid set him in the drivers seat (yes I asked first) The guy took the picture. He and his son had the biggest smile on their faces. Will never forget that day. I bet the kid is now ruined for life !! He will spend every dime he makes on cars !!!!!!!

Last October or so I was at our Sunday breakfast w/ 4-5 others. When we came out there were a couple of Dads and kids there looking. We all encouraged talk and then I asked one kid if he wanted to sit in mine so his Dad could take a pic. Wow, he jumped at that. I don't know where they all came from but I ended up cycling five kids between 6 and 12 yrs old in/out of my car. I always think how excited I would have been if someone made that offer to me 50 yrs ago.

10 of us from UT, AZ, CA, and OR just finished a 4 day cruise through southern Utah. It really felt like a Rock Star's tour. Everywhere we drove, stopped etc. people just came over to look and talk.
Probably the most entertaining was when the Chinese tour bus emptied out of the gas station we stopped at to get gas. There wasn't a lick of english but the sentiment was obvious. I made the huge mistake of letting one of them sit in the car for a picture... It was like the old Chinese Fire Drill... literally!
Then at one of the national parks a group of Frenchmen that rented Harley's in Vegas to tour the National Parks, stopped. Only one of them knew a little english but all 14 came over, The one who knew english told me his dad also owned a Cobra. His dad, who was standing next to him, was shaking so hard he couldn't work his iPhone to show me a picture. I finally took it from him and brought the picture up. He was beaming. There are dozens more stories but it all comes down to one thing, These cars are awesome!
On the same cruise, I had 4 offers to trade. One Frenchman on a rented Harley wanted to trade, I said nah I owned mine a and his rented. We laughed and then he said to bring it to France and trade.
At the service station withthe Buss tou, One came up an did speek very little english but wanted to sit next to me and have the pic taken by her hubby. Picture taken and I turn to start the car and there is another one standing next to the car having her picture taken. They mobbed the cars. Finally got Doug in his car and got him out of there!

Gas stations seem to be the popular location for people observing our cars. I guess it's one of the only times it's actually sitting still..
While getting some fuel the other day, a young 20 something lady who was riding past on her bicycle, swerved over to take a look. She was dressed up in the typical "punk rock" attire you often see these days, piercings and all. I didn't know punkers where into cars at all, but she seemed really interested.
After she had a good look, with a few " that's cool" uttered, she asked, "How fast will it go?". I said, I never have had it top out, but suspected it was probably capable of 150-160 mph, and that one like it had actually gone 198 mph.
She waived over her boy friend, who also well pierced, and sporting some serious dreadlocks, rode up on his bike. She said to him, "This really old car can go super fast." "Isn't it the coolest!"
He smiled, but didn't say anything, (as perhaps his tongue was attached to a lip piercing), and away they rode..
So now if a punk rocker say's our cars are cool, they must be cool!.
