IRS ebrake cable length question

I am building a Mark IV with the Lincoln Mark VIII IRS. I am using the Lincoln brakes and the FFR cables. The handle came from a 94 Mustang donor. It has become apparent that the FFR cables are to long. I initially failed to pin the adjustor when I removed the handle, but I was able to rectify that. After installing all the parts, when I pulled the pin there was extra length in the cable, and when I pull up the handle the crossbar on the handle cable hits the frame mount.

Is this normal, and I have to shorten the wheel cables, or did I miss something. It looks like I need to take out about 2".

Thanks,
Rick

Has anyone had to shorten the cables? If so, how much?
Thanks,
Rick

They go under the 4 inch tube, they may have been designed for the Mustang caliper not the Lincoln. HTH, Richard.

Thanks for the response. I received my Roadster in Sept. 2014, before the mustang irs was an option. I routed the cables under the 4" tube and they still seem to be 2" to long. Can you provide me a cable length that worked for you?
Thanks,
Rick

RickGT40... did you ever remedy this? I have same problem. Tension got let out of the ebrake spring and also using tbird calipers with FFR cables and 94 ebrake handle. I did "shorten" about an inch with spacers and added a small skid plate that lets the t slide over that part of the frame. For me, I need to know how u remedied the tension... also when I pull on the handle, the caliper arms for the ebrake actuate all the way but the piston does not move... both sides. They are re-Mfg Ford units. Am I missing something? Ebrake should work with no fluid and all seems to be correct....

RockOn,
I cut some off the cable, but I don't remember exactly how much. I re-tensioned the handle by pulling the cable out to coil up the spring until I could pin it through the holes in the frame. Once I got it all together the ebrake still didn't work until I put fluid in the brake system and bled it. At that point it worked the way it should. If you need more info PM me your number and I will call to discuss.

I moved the cable mounting brackets and used the Thunderbird cabled that came with my bone yard IRS assembly with out routing the cables under the cross member. Works like it should.
