I jacked up and braced the car, put the diff on the jack with the pinion toward the ceiling, started pumping... clunk- didnt fit, rotate- clunk, rotate some more clunk, rotate the last 90 degrees - clunk... commence 4 letter words.. alot of them
about to quit, and start thinking almost 8000 people have done this... im doing something wrong... it HAS to go in at an upward forward angle- because its NOT going straight up... poof- goes right up. A little tight at the rear mount bolt bracket... thats what the 3 ton jack is for...slid right up...
solid front mounts- like butter, rear bolt - butter...
learning point...my shoulders are <really> sore, and its a 2 person job-i did it- but i dont ever...ever want to do it again.
whew am i glad i only have to do this once...

X3 on the tag thing. I have one on the center section and one on the keys. I really don’t want to forget something like this….. again……yea, I'm telling on myself. I think we've all had days like that somewhere in our lives.
I had about the same experience with my center section as well. Had enough of the 4 letter words to get out the tape measure and fab up a section that will replace the rear mounting bracket and cross bar if I ever have to take that thing back out.(it will be a removable part to open that area up some) I really wanted to do the MOD on it now, but that would mean I would have to take the pumpkin out again………. Not going to happen until I HAVE to do it.
Congrats on the progress. That’s one step closer to driving.
We don't believe you did it.
You know the rules, no pictures, didn't happen!
Congratulations! I love the look of the IRS, I've held off re-installing the trunk aluminum so I can have access while I run my e-brake cables, but also so I can check out my rear-end.

Good job, man. Some of my most enjoyable moments of this build is to sit back after a task like that with a cold or hot beverage and just admire the work. Revel in it for a while, then on the the next thing to tackle!!!

You are a better man than me. I tried doing it myself and got to the point of “its NOT going straight up” and then said to myself “your surgeon wouldn’t like you doing this” so I went and got some help.
Don't know if you are planning to put ABS in your roadster or not but now is the perfect time to purchase two exciter rings to slap on to your drive axels when you get them. That way they are already installed and you won't have to pull the shafts out to install them. I ran into this problem which caused a lot more work and curse words........
If you don't install ABS the exciter rings being installed won't hurt a thing.

He, He. This is a right of passage for all IRS owners! It reminds me of those truck stop ring and chain puzzles...the correct procedure to solve the puzzle is NOT obvious. The only difference is that those little puzzles don't weigh a friggin' ton and you don't have to bench press them up into place with your back on the concrete getting your knuckles cut and bruised in the process.
Congrats!

Good stuff Jeff! I'll be looking forward to seeing it in not so many weeks now. Feel free to borrow the crane if you get a drive train before I'm back; it's in the garage. And please do me a favor and use my truck to move it if you do? I don't think that thing has been run in about 5 months now.

Yep ... Opened up my right little finger and had some blood seeping from under my right index fingernail as it tilted off the jack wedging my hand where it didn't fit ...lol... And yes there were a few MO-FO's getting thrown around the garage... Lol

I had a very similar experience!
Gave up after farting around an entire day. Re-read all I could find on the board, and slipped it in within 10 minutes the next day. Was very relieved for sure. When I was stuck, I would have bet F5 had welded up my cage too tight:-)
