Finally, after 3 weeks and a few mishaps, the car is back from paint. 4 coats of House of Color Brandywine Kandy over 2 coats of Platinum Metallic with pearl added. It looks almost black until the sun hits it, then it really pops. The stripes? Funny you should ask...carbon fiber pattern to mimic the dash. All in all, I'm pretty happy.

Yep, the cat is out of the bag...we laid out the stripes, then painted them black. Next we laid out the "drawer liner" like you use in tool boxes and shot silver through it. Then candy over that and...viola! The sucky part is I have to ship out for 4 months this weekend, so it won't be on the road until spring.

What I think is cool about the effect of that technique is that is has a snake skin appearance. VERY COOL!
Kevin, the only way your car would go unnoticed is if it were under a tarp!! And furthermore, if you paint over that gorgeous paint job, you and I will have issues! I think yours still has more pop in the sun than mine, and it's ten years old!
I actually did not do any of the bodywork. I've done enough paint and body work in my life to know that I don't want to do paint and body work! When I bought the kit, another gentleman had already started it, and a friend of mine had painted the body. It wasn't really my favorite color (silver w/ red stripes) so when I finished the car I had a local guy here paint it. His name is Terry Pickelsimer and he is over in Suches, GA. He does a lot of classic cars and hot rods and is an awesome guy. He actually painted my car TWICE, because we didn't like the color the first time. (too large a metal flake...looked like a bass boat) I would highly recommend him if anyone in N. Ga or Western NC is looking for a paint guy.
Hey I saw a couple of dust spots in front of the hood so what's up w/ that? Ha ha. You car is beautiful and I really like the stripes. Great work!

Thank you everyone for the compliments. Sometimes when you decide to leave the road well traveled, you wonder if you are making a big, expensive mistake. But then you get finished and get rave reviews, it makes it all worthwhile. (of course, some people might have thought it looked like a mule's @#$ but just didn't say anything!)
I really dont see how anyone could have something negative to say about it. We wanted to do a carbon stripe too. But could not come up with a process we thought we would be happy with. We knew about the process you used as i have done it before. But i did not have the balls to do it on my real car. Turned out really good though. Congrats!

Very Very Nice! I love the color. Are the stripes considered 'ghost' stripes? They seem to be in the brandywine, not on top. What do you call that style?
