What size stripe?

After a little over 7 years my Mark III is finally getting paint. Question is, those of you who have used the "small stripe" beside the large 6.5" stripes, how wide is the little gap and how wide is the "small stripe"?
We're ready to lay out the stripes on Friday and I'd like some feedback.
Thanks,
Dave

X3 1/4" stripe, 1/4" gap. Don't forget to taper the stripe from front to back.

EDIT: Just to be clear - taper the stripe from the nose to the dash and also from the rear going forward to the back of the seats. I kept the "vertical" section of my stripes straight. In other words, the stripe on the lower oil cooler area is the same width as the very front of the nose. At the rear, I stopped the taper as the stripe turned down at the curve of the trunk.

hmmm, why taper the stripe? Mine was tapered when initially painted, but I thought it was a little weird.

Word is, if they weren't tapered, when viewed from the front/rear, the stripes would look wider at the ends than toward the middle. Optical illusion. Don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't tapered, so I don't know how they'd look untapered.

Have you considered widening the space between the two large stripes? Out to the space for the Cobra emblem. personal taste. I like this better.

Also, If I had it to do over again. I would taper the trunk stripes only to where the trunk curves down and then I would take the stripes straight down (vertical) from there. If you don't they look funny when they're not vertical when viewed from behind..

I did what Dennis suggested...

Taper goes from the cockpit to the ends of the body, then no taper down. Looks better that way. The gap between the stripes on mine is one inch - 3M does make the special striping tape in that width - hard to find though - have a lot left on the roll but worth the cost - made things a lot easier while taping up in the spray booth!

That's the one I used. All of the other layouts don't look as good IMO. You can see the layout in my graduation pics below.

Thanks for the compliment. The colors are both 65 Mustang colors: Wimbledon White and Caspian Blue. This blue usually looks lighter than the Indigo blue but it changes with the light. Check out my graduation post for some different views.
