Speedhut Oil pressure/Temp Gauge Sensors

1) I am in the process of installing my Speedhut Oil pressure sensor in the block between my fuel pump and oil filter. The thread on the sensor appears to be 1/2". The thread going into the block appears much larger(3/4"??). I do not believe I need a extension as the sensor will fit in that space nicely. Does anyone know what size reducer I need? I have a Ford 302 crate motor.

2) I am installing the oil temp sensor in the forward oil pan sump drain plug. What size fitting /thread does it take?
Thanks!

Jon

Sorry-my pictures are always sideways!
How do I fix this?

You can call SpeedHut and ask them. Or....

For the oil pressure sensor, I took the original sensor along with the new sensor to Home Depot plumbing section and grabbed a worker and told him what I needed and he found it in under a minute.

Good Luck

Bushings and reducers

Jon:

The block has a 3/8th pipe thread (NPT) tapered thread where you show the plug. The pressure sender is a 1/4 pipe, so you need a bushing to install it. All NAPA stores have a selection of Edelmann brass fittings that will do the job. Take your plug and the sender in and they can fix you up.

The location you are trying to use for the temp sender is another problem. The pan drain plug is a 1/2-20 straight thread (not a tapered pipe thread) and I'm not sure where to find such an animal. I'm not aware of anybody that makes an off the shelf bushing for a straight thread to a pipe thread exept for Parker in their hydraulic parts. It's not a normal automotive application. Most aftermarket pans have a 3/8ths or 1/2 inch pipe bung welded into the pan to accept a temp sender or you can weld or braze one on a stock pan. Mike Forte has a trick adapter that allows you to use a temp sender in the factory oil level sender position. If you put your temp sender in the pan drain plug, won't that make it kind of a pain to drain the oil?

Yes-It is a very awkward place. Another option I read about is to use a "T" on the block plug and have both senders come off the "T".

Thoughts?

Have you installed the headers? I have a similar arrangement and my shorty headers did not clear the oil filter and I had to go with a 90 degree adapter and a short filter. Just thought I would throw that in.

I used one of these for the oil sender, plus another small brass adapter from Lowes.

I went a similar route, used the extension and then used a braided hose (AN6) and mounted the oil pressure sender near the head as it was just too crowed down there with the remote oil adapter, power steering pump and the big pressure adapter.

Where did you mount your oil temp sensor?
I called Speedhut and they were no help.

I dont have a stock pan on the new build. On my other car the oil temp gauge was installed on the side where the low oil monitor was originally.
