Found an FFR on my local Craigslist

1998 FFR Roadster replica. 302 Fuel injected 6 speed. Minor accident. Needs a radiator and windshield.
Called and talked to the owner.
He told me the car was built by Factory five racing in Wareham. I told him FFR does not build cars. He insists he had it built at Factory five. Right. I asked him 3 times about the 6 speed. He insists it is. HMMM He claims he was in a minor accident which tore the radiator from the car but did no other damage. Plausible I suppose if he caught the lower hose on something. Claim he broke the windshield while exiting the car. Plausible too. Heres where it gets interesting.
He says the insuracne company totalled and and paid it off at $82,000.00 He says they never looked at it, never wanted the car back and handed him a check without ever seeing the car. Also claims to have a clear title in hand. I know he is full of SH*^. Going to look at it tomorrow just for kick. Its the next town over from me.

I would check everything out before you go as far as legit address. I would also be surprised if he showed. Also be careful it isn't someone setting you up thinking you could be carrying a big box of money with you. Craigslist has a record of some of the not so best sellers and buyers. And yes if it does happen we all want pictures

Get the Vin number and run a Carfax before you waste your time going to see the car. Or just type the Vin into Google. I wasted a whole day last year looking at a pos truck that the guy lied about everything. If I had only asked for the viin, I would have known immediately that the mileage was turned back and the car was bought at an auction wrecked. Be careful, lots of scams and crazy people in this economy.

Mr Mustang found the ad (of course) Give him a call and have some fun. I can tell just from the crummy picture that its not a top notch build. No hood hinge, no roll bar trim rings. black roll bar. No visors etc. How did they ever come to a $82,000 conclusion? Cant wait to meet this character.

Yes. I wish I could go. Plus you may need a designated driver to drive you home. Hard to drive home when hysterically laughing. I think he placed his decimal point a couple digits to far to the right. Should be $8200.00 or maybe even $820.00

He has no idea (from a knowledge standpoint) who he's dealing with. I might give him his asking price if its a decent build. Hard to pass up a car for $18,000.00 I think his whole back story is a load of crap. Not sure why he would even bother to tell me all that stuff. The car will sell on price alone.

Reminds me of the seller close to me who had a contemporary rolling chassis and EM hacked up body (which he claimed was a Contemporary body even though it did not fit the frame), and a 390 truck motor (seized) that he claimed was a 427 sideoiler

I do agree, a 18K FFR is hard to pass up, especially for someone like yourself.

Hey Mike,

While we know it is not that early of a kit, there were a few cars actually built by FFR and staff that were at the original "June 1998" open house, so technically, the car could have been built at FFR . I was there with Bill K in his car (FFR1108) with Bob L (Roscoe) as passenger, Tim L (Tim L) and myself in my white 68 GT350 convertible (sans floors )......I do remember two cars similar to that one that were there, but have no pictures of that event to document it.

In 1998, I'm pretty sure they told me they would build one. You could even order the body painted if I remember correctly. They probably had someone doing it for them... but I'm pretty sure that was possible.

However, no turn key was available, not ever from FFR due to liability and crash standard issues.

He claims no salvage title. I suspect the whole insurance thing is a bunch of crap. Who knows why he said all that. I will try calling tomorrow.

if they gave him a 82k check then why is he asking for so much? Tell him that you will give him $1200 since when you go to register it, it will for sure come back salvaged since there was a payment made against the vin. bring cash
