Finally got to see this Cobra. It is a very early car. Definitely a Mark 1 He did not know the kit number and I couldnt find it anywhere on the car. It is a 100 percent donor build except the gauges and wheels. It has the real old style 4 lug halibrands.
The damage to the car is not that bad. It will need a windshield and radiator for sure. The body is cracked directly under the oil cooler opening. The front fender flare is scraped up and will need to be painted. The driver door damage may buff out. There is a large chunck of body missing right behind the passenger door up high. Looks like it might have been filled with Body filler and popped out during the accident. All in all the damage is very minor.
I just cant get by the guy lying to me about the car though. He still insists that its a 6 speed. it is a rear shift transmission. I am pretty sure its just a T5. Why would you use all donor parts and only change the transmission. He insists that Factory five built it for him. Im not saying they didnt, but it would be news to me if they did. I was always told they only sell kits.
Also he said instead of fixing this car he ordered a new one from Factory five. He told me and I quote " I know you said that FFR does not build cars, but I ordered one from them. They have a complete assembly line including paint. They are selling me a complete car for $32,000.00" I am considering buying the car as long as the paper work is in order. It will need a lot of reworking for my taste, but the old mark 1s are fun cars too.

Just be careful and make sure its a wicked good deal because someone that mental will certainly be nothing but a headache and possibly for a long time. Sounds like the kinda guy that will call you at midnight asking if you are happy with the car.

Its wierd. I get such a creepy feeling talking to him. He is nothing like every other Cobra owner I have talked to. Not really sure what to make of him. Wish I had the FFR number so I could do a little research. The car originated in MA. It has the MA state polic tag on it.
Is he a "woe is me" type of guy that implies he dying from something?

Good, I find that a lot of liars are like that. It's a shame. Good luck

Clearly somebody tightened the windwing and sunvisors screws too much.
I would run from it, there ar plenty of other opportunities out there without dealing with a wackadoodle, and the reality is that unless you have a really nice MKI, the market is stronger for a MKIII or newer.

Ron. Being a total Donor build, it really doesnt show well. It would need tons of cleanup and reworking. The carpet job is terrible. The donor wiring was run pretty well considering. I am going to lowball him and see what happens. After all he already collected $82,000 on it.
Mike
My opinion is if it was a really great deal someone would have snapped it before it even hit Craigslist. He is full of crap if insurance company paid him $82K for that and should be in jail for insurance fraud if that is the case. If I were like you and had the abilities and time to do all the work on it I would low ball him half of what he is asking.
I would spend as much time, if not more, checking his identity and true ownership out as you would the car itself. If not declared incompetent yet he still would have the abilty to enter into a contract.
Good luck, be Careful

Why does Dave keep this assembly line and paint shop such a secret? What, we're not good enough and only Dave's super-bestest friends gets factory built cars while we peons have to build them ourselves!?!
Oh I'm pissed alright!

The MK III had their steering shafts relocated to below the master cylinder (like the coupes) and this caused the shift to the left for the steering wheel (and also the smaller diameter steering wheels). Part of the changes to the car to allow the wider 4.6 style engines to fit.
I am going to pass on this one no matter what the price. Just too many inconsistencies in his story. Plus I know once I got it home I would tear it completely apart and upgrade everything. I would end up upside down on this one. Too many nice cars out there to deal with this one.
Mike
Id say he was seeing double when he saw the insurance check. It was really for $820.00.

Very good choice to walk away from this one! Anyone that "wacko" will cause you all kinds of trouble, I think.

So what did he want for it after you reviewed it in person?
