Can you over rev so you can't shift?

Wierd question I know.

But, leaving a cruise in this week, I got a little froggy ...highway was clear so I stung it pretty hard...tires proceeded to spin like crazy confirming I need to get rid of these old BFGs....when I went for thrid, I missed the shift...but as I tried to reclaim my dignity, I could not get it into third for anything! I finally snatched it up to fourth and drove on. When I pulled onto a secondary road and got to an intersection, the car shifted fine.

So, was I just that inept at the shift or is it possible the synchro is going and at the high RPM, it wouldn't go into third.

IF I ever build up the courage to show my face at that cruise in again, I will have to pull in with a big sign that reads "Has anyone found my 3rd gear? I can't find it!"

Once you miss, you usually have to go for another gear.

Missing usually glazes the blocking rings which will make it really tough to engage that gear. Sometimes it takes a little while to wear off the glaze but it will usually heal. If you dont have a good shifter on there, it would be a good investment, a little tough to swap after the car is done but its doable. Be careful out there with those BFG's.

3rd gear

When you missed the shift, the gears either stopped or reduced their speed. A good double clutching would have got them going again.
