I get around 20 on the hwy, verified by a cruise to the coast a couple weeks ago. Only 14 mpg around town. Similiar mpg as John above. I make 550-600+ rwhp depending on my boost setting. Cheers.
I have a goal in my 4.6 build to get 30 mpg and 400 hp. Could everyone post what your estimated mpg is.
Aero is definitely an issue, as well as rolling resistance on huge tires. anyone know what the coupe and GTM get?
The math was also done about how much you save a year at higher mpg, if money is your issue, better off not worrying too much about it - you don't actually save much. if range is your issue, get a bigger tank. if the environment is your issue....get a tesla or build an electric GTM :-)
Agreed. We were thinking about squeezing in a bigger tank, but the 20 is already a tight fit.

The reason i want to do this is because i want to prove that it can be done. Its just a goal. No real reason to do it except i want to do it to see if its possible. Anyone ever have an idea and do it to see if its possible. If 24 is already being done i think 30 is very doable.

Agreed. The roadster is a brick. Tough to get to 30 with any kind of decent power.

We can probably all get 30mpg if we slow down to about 48mph in fifth or sixth gear on level terrain with a tailwind. But what's the point of that?!? Air resistance is definitely Enemy #1 for these cars at speed. You'll need to focus on the body and underbody as much or more than the engine -- the factory will have already engineered that pretty much as good as it gets. Look hard at your gearing and rear end ratio, too, if you have the power to keep RPMs way down.
My idea of "highway" means traveling at speeds in the 65-80mph range, depending on the highway. Anywhere that I'm doing below that falls into the "cruising" category rather than "traveling."
Cheers, John

I still have the 14! I think my next big project will be putting in a fuel cell. Any pictures of yours?
I can try, but it's tucked in pretty well...

My mild(350ish rwhp) 347 efi averages town/hwy @ 22.6mpg on my stock 'stang 15gal.gas tank. 330mi.+/- fuel range per full tank. Plus, Fast enough to beat most others @ the drag strip! (lol)

Currently I have the drivetrain out of a 2005 gt. I was reading about a ford engineer increasing mpg by20percent. If I can replicate that and make the air in front of the car channeled could help. Then if I put a turbo with low boost with a tune for improved mpg I think it might work. My thoughts are if I can get 20 percent better mpg. 30 mpg is possible. The mpg test will be at 70 mph
my mild 302 gets 13 on the freeway and 10 around town. that's pretty good considering I drive the car hard most of the time.

Reason: that doesn't sound right!

Per this website it is rated for 23mpg on the highway, at ~3500 lbs. From the same website it is estimated that for every 100 lbs you remove from the vehicle you can improve fuel economy up to 2%. Let say your roadster ways in at ~2300 that is a 1200 lbs loss from the mustang so be conservative with the gain say 1.5% per 100lbs that an improvement of 18% overall which could net a mileage of 27mpg. This does not take into consideration the effect of drag though.
I think it's achievable with a small turbo and a cam change that makes max torque between 1500-3000 rpm. With short shifts and keeping the rev's as low as possible while keeping the engine heavily loaded the efficiency will go way up. Speed will be a limiting factor that will effect MPG unless the aerodynamics are improved.
I vision cruising 1500 rpm in 5th with a 2.73 rear at 60 mph getting 30 mpg with 2-3 lbs of boost.

I think it will be possible. I'm going to run 6 pounds of boost. I think I will be able to channel the air to the bottom of the car. I refuse to cover the radiator opening. But as long as the air is channeled if will be fine.
