Does anyone have experience with Ford Racings M-6007-X427FFT

I am definetely looking to install one of Ford Racings 427 Crate engines in my Mk4. Reason I state this is because almost for certain someone will ask me why I don't go with a 302 or a 408 or whatever. Not interested in other options at this time.

I am trying to find some more information on the 427 with the X Heads
M-6007-X427FFT

I understand about giving up 80 HP for the X Heads but does this also equate to a more driveable engine output or just less HP?

Not too concerned about giving up Horsepower and I do not have an issue with having to order special heads. I am just wondering if the X head engine will be more driveable. An example would be the difference between a Rousch 427R vs the Rousch 427SR. I have a good friend with the 427R and it is just not a good street engine per his observations.

What are the main differences between the 2. I know the basics: Heads and Cam but what would it take to upgrade later to the Z heads if desired?

I was able to aquire dyno. sheets for both but the numbers start above 3000 and 4000 RPM's respectively. Great for bragging rights but how do they perform on the street without romping on the throttle.

Input appreciated

just get the Z heads they rock! + you will have to buy new headers again I have a 392 with the Z heads and the driveability is great with EFI . It's my 93 pickup. Bob

Do the Hooker 351w headers work with the Z heads?

Or do we need to use a different type?

Icon15 As to drivabillity.......

This engine is insane! Power everywhere in the power band, & docile manners with a rumble. EFI works no problem on it. In my opinion it is the best crate motor out there!

Yeah, but yours is a 289 so it doesn't count.

Hey Mark,
Sounds like you have a good setup. For our edification would you mind detailing your induction, ignition, and exhaust setup on the motor please?

Thanks man,
Mario

Mario, I have the z head engine rated at about 540HP. I am using a Quick fuel 750 carb on an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold with an MSD pro billet distributor and digital MSD box and 1 3/4 primary headers feeding into a 2 1/2" undercar exhaust that comes out just in front of the rear wheels.
